Title: High ping: Solution?
Post by: Wayne on July 25, 2011, 07:11:05 am
Hi i have a 10MB internet and i'm suffering by a high ping.

I live in brazil, i know that's far, but i was getting 80ms ping on a canadian server.
BTW, i know i can lower the ping, but i just wanna find out how :X
I do not have anything downloading, but, when i play SA-Mp my ping is always above 230.

Any ideas? any tricks?

I suppose if you have a router that supports it, you could change the QoS (Quality of Service) so SAMP packets take precedence over anything else.

Helpful for Netgear routers:
http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/66/~/how-to-enable-quality-of-service-(qos)%3F (http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/66/~/how-to-enable-quality-of-service-(qos)%3F)

If you don't use a Netgear router, log into your router's control panel (usually at 192.168.1.1 (http://192.168.1.1), 192.168.0.1 (http://192.168.0.1) or 192.168.2.1 (http://192.168.2.1)). Find the area for Quality of Service, and set it so that either packets to/from 178.63.52.144 are highest, or packets to/from port 7777 are highest.

I have a netgear route indeed, but, it doesnt has this option.

Instead it has an option called: IP QoS

After rebooting my router, my ping got reduced from 250 to 200

Destination IP: 178.63.52.144
Destination Ports: 7777-7777 for SAMP only
Traffic Priority: As high as it can go
Name it something like Argo SAMP.

Also, according to this (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/929944), those two failures really aren't relevant.

Tried it, no changes.

Seems like rebooting the router was the best option so far.

Brazil to Canada is a shorter distance than Brazil to Europe. It's impossible to significantly improve your ping without you moving closer to the server I'd say...

Ive said this in soo many threads, the only ways to increase your ping (unless some program is slowing it) is to:
1 Move closer to your local exchage
2 Move closer to your ISP
3 Move closer the the Server

My ISP server response is 6ms, which means i'm damn close of it.

I live in a big city, so, yes, i'm pretty close of stuff here.

uh-oh, i can't buy fly tickets to europe ):

230 ping is fine to play SA:MP on. Less people will be able to kill you. :D
