Title: /engine
Post by: BlackEagle on July 31, 2011, 10:18:22 pm
Why it doesn't literally turn off the engine anymore? Louis said it is no bug.
Could we please have it back as it was before? It has no harm or whatsoever to anyone..

I have noticed that the cars engine are always on no, you can't have that middle state when it actually turns on/off when you enter/exit the vechile.

It was not intended to freeze the vehicle, instead simply display a message.

Could it at least disable the engine sound?

What, got revamped? Just yesterday turned engine off so the car was undrivable, which I think is pretty neat.

What is wrong with freezing the vehicle, may I ask? Also, disabling the engine sound and exhaust smoke at back is a pretty good feature. And from what I've experienced, has no harm. Vehicles spawn with on engine anyway, it is turned off only if you wish. Nothing forced and against "Argonath Vision", if it is the case.

Hey, guess what. Type /engine and it is driveable again, wow! Am I a wizard.

I miss the old /engine back. Where you would have to type /engine once to literary turn off the car.

Why would there be a command to just display a line of text? We got '/me' for that.

/engine should either have some visible affect that's more than just a text message, or it should get removed completely.

Well Gandalf argued that it should've been only a /me'd command rather than an actual command, but at the time I don't think he was aware that /engine could actually turn the vehicle on and off, which was added in SA:MP 0.3c.

It was intended only to be a visual change by adding a /me message, not actually turning off the vehicle. Due to recent situations, Gandalf actually found /engine wasn't doing what he wanted, and changed it to only be a /me message. In order to stop encouraging lazyness and lack of imagination, I removed this command, as it only displayed a /me message, and players could do that better...

But now the cars are on all the time, not as before. Before it was in a middle state as I cal lit where it was off when not a player was in it. Now the engine is on all the time rolling like they have used the /engine
command, the old one.

So why not return it as before?

Oh, I see now. That "Argonath Vision" thing. We are playing in their community and gotta' accept what they want. Fine, thanks for your answer. Though I'd like to learn what you meant with
Due to recent situations

If it's only a /me command, remove it because we have /me.

Ohh, now I know why when I landed my heli and did (/engine) the blades kept spinning -_-

Engines on had nothing to do with /engine, its due a recent change involving the SALES vehicles.

If it was nothing other than a /me command why the hell was it added in the first place... or better yet why was it wanted to be added in the first place? I doubt Gandalf of all people would want to add a command that does nothing but show a message /me could use... plus if I am not mistaken he is the one who supports less /me action and the use of animations. Does this not fall under the same category? SA:MP has the possibility of using animations to show what you mean instead of just /me walks /me talks /me runs... same for engine, /engine and it goes off instead of "/me turns off engine" "/me turns on engine" "/me magically removes black smoke" "/em engine is off on car!!".

Does this not make sense?:

If you want opinion - here it is... Why don't you turned off your engine and just insisted to do it by /me? Also seeing this can suppose that cop already had many cases where so-called roleplayers were "forgetting" about turned off engine (/me) and just drove away... With this I do understand why cop insisted to see its done by command... With this also suspicious why you ignored the script command... There is nothing in this command, you do not lose money, or anything else, still you preferred to use /me instead of turning off engine by script... So I do suppose (and I am sure cop too) once wanted you just drive away with no any /me...

All cars are automaticly turned on - Not a bug
Sales cars are automaticly turned off - Not a bug
Car engines only say "Engine Off" but it stays running - Bug..

Well, the owners never wanted /engine in the first place as it forces RP.

So I guess /engine only displays the text now as it's the wishes of the owners.

How the hell do /engine force RP, for god's sake.

Cause do be able to move the car you were FORCED TO use /engine, which was RPing starting the car.

No, vehicles spawn with on engine. Your vehicle's engine will not go off unless it runs out of fuel or you type /engine.

Does that mean you done this change in order to fix with the problem with sales vehicles?

Yea, but if someone else turned it off and on, then you were forced to.

Gandalf specifically said he did not want /engine to turn the engine on and off, end of discussion.

Protect your vehicle? Scripts are not to babysit players.

end of discussion.
Lol.

Oh fine, command is totaly removed I see. Well, another good SAMP feature that basicly got spoiled by RLRPer - FREERPer conflict.

Topic may be locked, thanks.

No but (/engine) actually turned off the engine making it unable to move. (/me) just "RP"s the engine turning off, but it's now never goes off.

Might as well just scrap the whole command and do /me...it doesn't benefit you any more than using /me, so why bother using it?

What the fuck is the point of command then ? And why was it even introduced? See my post above...

I have no idea why the command was introduced.
