Title: Steam is.... fucked up...
Post by: CharlieKasper on August 07, 2011, 03:01:23 pm
2 Days ago, my steam was working all fine, no problems in logging in, no problems in loading up the games, and stuff like that. But yesterday when i tried to log in, entered my ID and password, steam stopped responding. Tried dragging it all over the screen, didn't work. I thought it might be some temp problem, but i'm still experiencing it today. So any idea how to fix this?

p.s. Re-installing is my last option, as i'll lose all the games and i'll have to re-download it all again. It's a pain in the ass for me with the 512 kb/s connection.

How many things do you have running at the time of starting?

if it were hacked, he would just get a response saying password is wrong, its obviously a bug in steam, you can just copy the game files out and then reinstall steam and copy them back, if you wish to reinstall, but i think there is a file you can delete to get steam to run an update/bugfix

Before reinstalling, copy/move your games data folders to another spot, then after reinstalling put them back. That way you shouldn't have to re-download all the files.

I did install Steam over my old Folder the other day and had all game data available and working.

That happens to me sometimes, when launching steam or a game, it has like 50% chances of freezing

Will try doing that.

Oh well, i just tried re installing everything. Now I'm able to log in but... It asks me for PC Verification and after verifying, it stops responding again.

You could just wait like 5 minutes. It happens to me all the time when I login. Dunno why though.

Go to the folder you've installed Steam (usually C:\Program Files\Steam\) and delete file ClientRegistry.blob
This often fixes issues like this.
