Title: Counter-Strike: Global Offense
Post by: EliteTerm on August 13, 2011, 05:34:10 am
(http://www.gamersmint.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/counter-strike-global-offensive.jpg)

I never expected Valve to bring back Counter-Strike for the 3rd time (technically 4th, but that was for Korean markets)..

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago.

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo.

What you guys think? Would this have next generation graphics designed by Valve?

offtopic: Why do Valve keep trying to avoid Half Life 2 Episode 3?

ontopic: Dedicated Servers, tons of mods, custom maps and with decent graphics and this game will kick ass.

I don't understand why they keep making new CS games, the CS gamers, will continue sticking to 1.6, and when that "wave" from the 90s-07 is over, CS is dead..

They keep trying to get more of their super success, but it will keep on failing.

This is pure bullshit.
I mean, while developing it, they gathered all the CSS pro players.

And the worst thing is, even the CREATOR of Counter Strike wasn't in the development as he stepped away.
Sorry but, 1.6 will never be replaced.

CSS already sucks, they gathered their players, CS GO will suck even more?

Damn 1.6 players, why can't they accept that Source is just a better engine and that CSS is a superior product?

Anyway, this sounds like a TF2-ification of CSS, since it is on consoles too.
I will play it at Eurogamer in September and report back with results.

Indeed, Source has a better engine, gameplay and stuff. But the main problem is, no one likes to play with low graphics, as most of the computers(for ex mine) don't support CSS with high graphics and usually cause lag.

1.6 is better than CSS btw. More people play it than CSS and it's first beta was released in 1999

EA didn't "design" anything to do with CS.

A bit off topic: Last November, Valve's president said that "We're going to announce 3 major stuff in the year 2011."

They were:

1: Portal 2

2: Team Fortress 2 Uber Update, which included the long waited "Meet the Medic" and everyone but the engineer got new stuff, and TF2 is now Free to Play.

2.5: Engineers don't get new stuff [weapons wise], I am an engineer in development because I'm in college and we Engis don't get nice shit, don't even get me started on Spies...

3: This game, CS: Global Assault, is going to be released in early 2012. But it was announced a few days ago.

There's hope though. A few weeks ago, the woman that does the voice of GLaDoS said that she's returning to Valve to work on something for Portal 2. Thus releasing lots of expectations for an upcoming DLC that's still in development.

Back on-topic.

I have a relative that's an FBI field agent, he said that the people in the FBI buildings he's been to always has CS: Source as a form of training software.

I've had absolutely no problem with the CSS community, especially when compared with clusterfuck console communities like XBL and PSN. At least the CSS community is generally mature.

inb4 team fortress strike

This doesn't sound very good at all. CS:S is almost the perfect shooter, with easily the best engine I've ever had the pleasure of playing an FPS title on.
But like I said, I'll leave judgements until I play CS:GO in September.

CS:S maybe seems like a good shooter, but only for those who never knew to play 1.6 because of lack of skill.

All those newcoming FPSs dont have even S from a word Skill as 1.6 had it. 1.6 one and unique :)

Well not really, but it indeed need more skill.Source grew up in totally different time unlike 1.6 so it recieved influences of modern fps games.. Anyway, despite everything,1.6 remained top online game even its more than 10 years old which talks much about its quality :) Not to mention how many more players with Non-Steam CS (Pirated ones)

Except for the players (attitude wise) and graphics quality (which isn't the most important in a game), I can agree.

CS:S is nothing like modern FPS games. It's still Counter-Strike, just on the Source engine (HL2 graphics/physics). They're not that different at all.

The original Team Fortress mod for Quake 1, Team Fortress Classic mod for HL1, TF2 - between those are actual differences in game-play.

This is what I thought and am still thinking at this point. They are pushing the Source engine to it's limits each time they release a new game (which frankly isn't that many). I guess they want to keep a stable engine that can be optimized to the extreme for any machine to play.

Personal thoughts though, Valve should create a new engine from the ground up, perfect it, learn to use it and create a new counter-strike. I know this would take longer, but IMO it would be a massive selling point. Counter-Strike : Global Offensive - New Valve engine.

I've been playing counterstrike for years now, although not actively the entire time. I love the franchise to be honest.

I only like molotovs. Most weapon models from the video E.T. posted look crap. Also hands without gloves = not Counter Strike.

By the way, CS (1.6/CZ and Source too I think) are 75% off on Steam again.

As I already said, Valve, Y U MAKE COD:CS?!

And, my point is, 1.6 has professional leagues with big money stakes, this is something that will end soon.

I have +/- opinions to this game, it looks good and so on, but it kinda takes away the cs feeling I suppose.. Too much COD/BF feeling in these gameplay trailers for me...
