Title: GTA SA Resolution
Post by: Norrage on August 31, 2011, 03:24:44 pm
Hey guys,

Ehm since yesterday I have some problems with my GTA SA. The max resolution I can set it on is 1024 x 768, while my max resolution is 1600 x 900. Well I thought it was some problem with the Compatibility, tho I tried changing it, setting it to Windows XP service pack 2, tho now GTA SA doesnt start anymore. I tried reinstalling everyting already, I even tried reinstalling Windows, but I still have the same problem..

Anyone got the solution to this? If you do, can you please discribe it step by step?

Sounds like you need some video card drivers

Dont trust that...look up your brand/model and download and install manually

This might sound stupid considering you've reinsalled everything, but when uninstalling San Andreas sometimes a folder is left behind in My Documents called "GTA San Andreas User Files" and inside that there's a file called gta_sa.set. Have you tried deleting that and running the game again?

If not then yeah it is a driver issue, what GPU do you have?

Yes I did. Okay wait this is getting really weird. Let me take some pictures etc, wait for this post:

I have a duplicate button on my laptop. When I press on it I get this:

When I click on "Alleen op computer", GTA SA starts in 1024x768.
When I click on "Uitbreiden", I can choose:

This actually works, but when I enter SA:MP, and when I try to change the settings again (I want to set it to widescreen), SA:MP crashes.
I hope this makes it a little bit more clear.

My idea of sending over a gta.set with your desired settings probably wont work. It probably will just have the same effects as deleting the gta.set.
Try this tool. I'm not sure how to use it but it may help you a  lot:

http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=857 (http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=857)

22 res level = 1600x900 but it differs on peoples computers. Remember to use this tool on the Single Player at the Main menu to modify the different Advanced Options settings, do not use it in SAMP. :)

PS: Patching the game fixes the issue, however SA:MP does not support it. =\

delete gta_sa.set file. disable any forced compatibility (especially the graphics ones, ie. 'force 640x480').

Start single player, set resolution, exit game.

Start SAMP and check if it works.

Try this:

http://www.mediafire.com/?zd82tgyuhv3faid (http://www.mediafire.com/?zd82tgyuhv3faid)

There is a ReadMe file in there.. Do a backup of the files that you replace just in case... Pretty simple to install. If it doesn't work, please let me know as I got a second solution, which should do the job for sure.
Good luck :).
