u can type fps_max 101 in the console. , and try these as well

rate 20000 or 25000 (depends on ur connection actually)
cl_rate 10000
cl_updaterate 101 or 70
cl_ ???  101 (i forgot whats this called, i think its cl_downrate or something)

You have a low end graphic card.. Doing what is listed above can result in overheating, or even permanite damage. What i would do is buy a new graphic card, With atleast 256 MB of Video Ram

i have 64mb Video memory :( and my CS 1.6 runs at 30-60 in some areas (even at 30fps its smooth). i play at cause4alarm.net servers (Fun maps, Scoutknifz, Football, Volleyball, Scoutknifzweaponarena (SKWA)) and such...I'm currently asking my friend from school if he has a PCI gfx card somewhere that i can use.

Did u try adjusting the graphics options to possible: 800*640 or something?

What the guy above said about that Wayne needs to buy a graphics card:

DONT listen to him.

Its not worth it.

CS:1.6 plays good with a 3dfx voodoo 3 graphics card which is 8 MB memory ROFL. and this graphics card comes from 1998 i think.

Also, U dont know alot of it, I  assume.

The only thing I adjusted to get higher FPS was in CS 1.6 was that I adjust my screen resolution.

So its defi not the graphics card

Then u got a frame limiter problem.

Did u try: fps_max 0

0 means unlimited framerate

This would work.

I use those commands on hl based games as well, with no overheating problem.

is vsync enabled? if so, disable.

Also, Did you have the right direct x version:

9 or 8.1?

I use 9.0C

and how to turn vsync off?
direct x is 9.0C..

Most video cards you have to turn off the vsync off to get high FPS(100) in Counter-Strike. Do that with Nvidia cards you make right click on your desktop->properties->settings->advanced->video card name(mine is atm GeForce FX 5200) ->performance & quality settings -> vertical sync-> and take tick off Application controlled.

i downloaded geforce tweak utility..
vsync has disabilited..
i remove frame limiter buffers.. and nothing happened..
FPS keeps 30..
how bad is that...

well look you all think that if you have a 128mb card is the same as all other cards but this isnt true....
a 64mb card can be better than a 128mb card...
if you want to get more frames i sugest that you buy a better one.
i have 256mb at this moment and this card is better than some card of 512mb...

so all what i say is a expensive video card of 128mb is better then a cheap video card of 512mb...

what i said was just example.

And wayne did you already downloaded the last drivers and installed ?

if you buyed a new video card you will get a disc with drivers.
but those drivers can be out of date so i sugest to go to the offical site and download and instal the last drivers.

Also you can set the video options at low to get more frames.

i suggest you get the GeForce FX 5200 video card. its a good video card. but you cant play some games on medium setting tho like battlefield 2 or 2142.
