Post by: Batta on September 14, 2011, 09:47:25 pm
A simple command to turn on and off the car engine.

/engine

No; roleplay it. The only way to turn off an engine, is, as far as I know, by freezing you. Which would mean you couldn't use your camera either.

I see, I thought that was already supported.

I don't think that it is possible even by freezing or hacking the code. So far there isn't proper way to be achieved.

Edit:

Quote

He means when you are in the car.

I know that but I thought we can't shut it down while inside.

I would like this command, instead of having people take our cars when we get out or when we want the engine off. we could just sit in our cars if we dont want anyone to come up and take our cars if we get out of them. Also, I think this will increse roleplay. When a cop pulls you over, you have to turn off your engine, thus, you do /engine and sit in car instead of getting out when the officer didnt tell you to, this enhances roleplay, not decreeces it Thomas... i see no reason why this shouldnt be added

The issue with this is it forces roleplay on people, requiring them to start the engine before driving away, which is against what the Server Owners want, as stated in the SA:MP topics about it.

If engine turns on automaticly as u enter you wouldnt be forced to turn it on....

Besides, isnt actuall turning off the engine more intersting then have stupid text and seeing engine still work and pretending it doesnt work  :poke:

Hey, I'm just saying what the Server Owners said, don't blame me D:

I meant it like SA:MP, when you enter the car the engine is on till you do /engine for 2 times (the first one turns it on in the RP way and the second one off).

So that noone will be forced to RP.

Again, the Server Owners already said they won't allow that.

Was it removed in SA:MP?

Yes. The only thing SA:MP has now is when you exit the vehicle, it automatically turns off, entering it automatically turns it on, which is how it was before SA:MP 0.3c introduced the function to turn it on and off manually.

Uhm we can keep the system we already have (the normal one, who allows you to turn the engine off while leaving the car, if you want to) but an /engine to turn it on/off while inside the car would be very nice.

That's the issue. The Server Owners won't allow it because they see it as forced RP since you have to start the engine to drive, and to only make the command state the text to solve this would be pointless since it'd just be a shortcut for a /me message, hence why it was removed from SA:MP completely.

Yea you can RP it with /me anyway but the engine remains on ^^ . Anyway you don't have to use /engine to start the car, it would start as usual and turn off or remain on when you leave it as usual. I'm just saying that this command could be used while driving..

RP isn't forced this way..

Hi fellas,

/engine has worked for a while, but the problem is IVMP has engine health and damage disabled because of the client - so we cant use it :(

Should be noted though that you can use it for roleplay :)

As far as I know, that should be changing in the next update. They are separating the functions for Engine Health and Vehicle Health, so I believe they should work at that point.

Indeed, the command exists but can't work at the moment. It will work in the next client version.

No no no..you dont get it...the /engine is only for rp and stuff....so this wont effect when you enter or exit. When you enter it, it will start automaticly. And when you hold F and leave the vehicle you will turn off the engine and leave the car. BUT this adds when you are in the car and you dont wanna wait outside in the rain and you can turn off your engine. This also does a /me turn on engine, /me turns off engine. This will not be forceing anybody to rp.

Requiring you to type a command to start the engine is forcing a user to roleplay starting the vehicle to drive away, hence why the Server Owners disallowed it. Even if you don't leave the vehicle, it's still forcing you, yourself, to roleplay the engine's starting and shutting off before you can drive away.

You didn't get it..

There's no RP forcing.

1. You enter a car without starting the engine because it turns automatically on as usual.
2. You leave the car turning off the engine (holding F) or without it, as usual.

If you want to RP you can use /engine while inside the car to turn it on or off...

Where's the forcing?

I understand fine. I will drop it if you wish, but as I said, I'm not giving my personal opinion. I'm simply restating exactly what they said about the same scenario you were talking about. I'm not against your idea, I'm just repeating something.
