Title: Facebook "Timeline" Update
Post by: Pandalink on October 03, 2011, 01:46:46 am
So Facebook is trying out an entirely new profile page, which instead of being a list of posts on a wall, is a timeline running vertically down the page. Even though I usually hate any change whatsoever, I actually quite like this new update, especially since the info page is still intact along with the "like" lists (which are unchanged). In addition, you can add a nifty cover photo which is a large picture along the top of the profile.
With the Timeline you can go to any point in the past and see everything from that point as represented along the timeline, which technically was always possible but quite difficult to do, as you had to scroll all the way down through the list whereas with the timeline you can select (on the right hand side) the year and month.

Facebook said that they were going to roll out the update on an opt-in basis in the next few weeks, but you can get it now if you follow the 5 minute guide to join the Facebook "developers" section which is on a site somewhere (google for it).

Note: The right-hand ticker and chat selection window are not shown in the screenshots as my screen is not wide enough to display them along with my docked bookmarks window. For anyone else, they will be there as normal.

Frankly annoying with the boxes, left right left right. I don't really like the new design, the only thing I find useful is the general idea of the timeline. And yeah, the big picture at top is pretty dope as well.

Sooner or later these 'changes' will turn it out like myspace.

How so?
Myspace was a pile of shit compared to Facebook, although even in saying that they're almost not comparable really.

With all the new complications they will bring.

I've been using it since roughly 20th September (got access to developer) frankly... I LOVE IT! It's great for looking back over your life of FaceBook! To be honest...been a huge fan of the new updates across all of FaceBook (including the news ticker)

The more I look at the old design, then back to the new, the more annoyed I get because it's fucking ridiculous with these right-left boxes.
Yeah, the new system to check what you did back in '08 are rather cool, nonetheless the new design of your profile is bumpy and I can't really understand what's so good about the rest.

Purely from first impression, I don't like it. There's too many boxes and it looks quite simply cluttered. But then again, my profile will be changed eventually, so I may as well embrace the fact that I'll have to get used to it like I've had to with the other recent updates.

Facebook was intented to look like a social network with easy layouts and comfortable pages. Now it looks as if it's combining Twitter, MySpace and clueless creating.
