As you may all know, with fast-growing users of Android, iphones which means using an a smartphone to play is no longer a joker.
In todays new technology, with the new advancement of Iphone 4S which means a faster downloading speed, users can now be more easily access the internet.
"Smartphones run mobile operating systems such as Apple's iOS, Google's Android, Microsoft's Windows Phone 7, Nokia's Symbian, RIM's BlackBerry OS, and embedded Linux distributions such as Maemo and MeeGo. Such systems can be installed on many different phone models, and typically each device can receive multiple OS software updates over its lifetime. Smartphones run third-party applications using advanced application programming interfaces (APIs),which can allow those applications to have better integration with the phone's OS and hardware than is typical with feature phones. In comparison, feature phones more commonly run on proprietary firmware, with third-party software support through platforms such as Java ME or BREW.[1]"
So,here,I would like to suggest or encourage users of Argonath try develop a new apps that can be used by both apple and Android users
a new apps called iArgonath for example...easier to check the forum using apps...
maybe introduce some intercross with Facebook or twsiter check-in function so as to keep in contact with friends and argonathian.
for example we can update our status
Chaska checks-in LSPD with ChaskB and 4others
People no longer need to go on forum and they can advertise their product both within games or on iArgonath.
once you log onto iArgonath...you can see the advertisement or annocenment ingame real time so that we argonath lovers can be informed and will keep information updating.
If it is developed successfully,we can patent it..so that other community want to make something similar to the iArgonath have to pay for it as other ways to increase the server income.
Pros of developing Argonath Apps for mobile:
1) Link the real game into our daily life.
2)Being advanced and in the cream of Technology within SAMP server
3)help Argonathian and lovers will not miss every single moment even if he/she cannot log in games
4)Link the players closers using iArgonath like a facebook for Argonath
5)Most of the people have smartphone so developer do not need to be afraid of "No one use it"
6)As our godfather Steve Jobs once said "Stay hungry, stay foolish"
So what do you think we should add into iArgonath?

I believe it will be a great addition to the community since this will also attract even more GTA gamers when the application pops up into their device. I believe this is also a good source of income financially since the application could start of with small amount of money like $0.20/20 cent/20p. What is also great about this idea is that in this modern day, as you stated above, almost everyone has got a smartphone/android so they will keep updated. I certainly would download this app.
-
I'll go all conservafag on this one, brother. I really don't like the idea... But an interesting idea, for sure.
-
Interesting, but not sure if practical.
Considering Argonath will always be free, the app must be free as well.

$0.20, com'on...
-
Hey!?!
What about Blackberry?
Just a note, how does this relate to SA:MP?
Or posted in wrong board by mistake?
-
$0.20, com'on...
But the difference between $0 and $0.20 per downloader would be fairly minimal for Argonath, but significant for each downloader as they would need to have payment details on their iTunes/Android accounts which many (particularly those that are young and definitely shouldn't have a bloody smartphone anyway) do not have easy access to.
-
Honestly, I don't see a point to having a separate app. If I'm busy in-game and want to check something, I pull my phone out to check it on forums. Though on the other hand, I would support having an IRC mirror of the SA:MP chat so I can check-in game and notice while doing other work. Lastly, I have been using RSS feeds which have been a great help for up-to-date information.

After a night of thinking, here is just my brainstorm of what the app can do:
E.g. A menu of iArgonath:
1)Forum
a mobile phone version of forum which make the forum become simplier and easier to read.
For example, hide signatures and profile pics to make the information on forum become easier for mobike user to read.
2) real-time interaction in and out of game:
Even if we can't log in games, there are still real-time chat log on so that user can still know what's happening inside games....(suitable for those who are at work, and cannot access to SAMP while he can use mobile to interaction with people) ,maybe if possible apps user can input text through the logs and in-games player will see their text
like
Chaska(Mobile):Hi :D
3)allows user to mobile upload picture or screenshots
through mobile directly without uploading to photo uploading providers.Which is more user-friendly for Argonath.
4) Keep in contact
A new window for argonath. linking argonath with real-life.
once we open ""Keep in contact"...we can connect ourselves with other player like using facebook.
argonathians can post comment, video, status, feeling on their own profile wall.
More to add.
PS Sorry for unclear point i made..
It should be free to download...
I'm just saying patent the apps so that other who want to add something similar to iArgonath have to pay for it.
In fact, with the growing technology and high competion market for mobile phone,it's not a joke or unforeseeable that one day...some/most of our games activity/life-style will closely link to mobile phone.
-
I'm going to critique this. Feel free to disagree.
1)Forum

There is a WAP version available which honestly sucks in my opinion. On most current devices (whether it be iOS, Android, WP7), Argonath's forum looks pretty good in them since you can zoom in/out using your finger. Otherwise, WAP version comes into play.

Again, an IRC mirror of the server would work great. You can get IRC clients on just about any device and/or computer.
3)allows user to mobile upload picture or screenshots
through mobile directly without uploading to photo uploading providers.Which is more user-friendly for Argonath.
Facebook. We did have an Argonath Connect which worked for a bit but became inactive.
4) Keep in contact
A new window for argonath. linking argonath with real-life.
once we open ""Keep in contact"...we can connect ourselves with other player like using facebook.
argonathians can post comment, video, status, feeling on their own profile wall.
Again, why not just use Facebook...

For those who don't know - developing applications on IOS requires a Mac and a developer account that costs $100 per year.
Therefore, android would probably be more ideal.
As for an application to view the forum, there are some forum-readers available on the markets. It would be ideal to develop and customize your own, being able to "subscribe" to your favourite boards/topics, so your little mobile screen isn't totally over populated.
I think developing an app used by law enforcement would be nice. Perhaps just starting with a simple criminal database.
I don't really see the point of Facebook integration, but developing applications that are more IC, so to speak.
Really nice topic here Chaska!

I like the general idea here, but shouldn't this be in the Speakerbox instead?
-
I've already tried to make an app for iOS and it is extremely difficult without a mac (it is possible, not particularly legal, but still) and it takes a lot of work for little gain.
Still, as soon as the money comes, I will figure a way ;)
-
There is a way to make iOS programs on a PC too. It just requires a development program specifically made for that, or a plugin to one that is made for that. They exist, just likely cost a lot of money and are hard to find.

^ True

Until the overall attitude of SA:MP players reaches a level where the majority of players can be trusted on their own, I do not support the possibility for any connection to the chat other than joining the server.

Argonath is not a kindergarten.

Argonath is not a kindergarten.
Exactly, which is why I do not understand why many of the players need supervision when I know kindergarten students who don't.
-
Argonath is not a kindergarten.
Users should stop treating it as such then. The admins don't need to babysit players. Although I don't agree with restricting ideas completely based on user attitude right now, I do agree with JDC that users need to control themselves before they are given a million more things to do, since they are already abusing what they have. This is another subject though, so I'll avoid it for the time being.
I believe someone was making an app for something Argo-related awhile back. Anyone know what happened to that?
-
I remember that topic, SugarD. As far as I remember, the application was HORRIBLY designed (looked like it was made in MSPAINT) and all that it had was general server information (rules, IP, etc).
-
Anyone else remember that social network for argonath that Safetymoose ran ? Or just me?
-
You mean this 'un (http://argonathconnect.socialgo.com/)?
-
Again, why not just use Facebook...
Because it is a horrible service with unfair and unacceptable terms of service.

Guy posted a couple of screenshots, didn't become an admin / official developer and then disappeared.

Argonath Connect

chea, that was one of the most useless things ever!

The question is, "Why dont we have an IRC mirrior already?"
-
The question is, "Why dont we have an IRC mirrior already?"
Partially because IRC is still limited to a few things and the fact that people could easily abuse it.
-
Something like that would be very ambitious, and perhaps unlike anything we have tried before.
The Argonath forum, site areas seem to work well through a mobile browser, but perhaps if we ever considered developing something like this in future, we could set up personalised home portals/feeds, which keep track of things going on in the community that you recently checked in on/subscribed to.
As majority (if not all) of AR's forums are run on SMF systems, it would have to be integrated.
-

Don't forget that there's Java Scripts for IRC, making an irc client on forums so you don't have to download.
IRC would be great, few admins and operator and it's all good.
-
This is indeed an intersting Idea, however several Factors apply. Such as the Time or Money put into developing it as well as the final outcome. We already do have several ways of connecting Argonath Players weather it be the Forum or Facebook or whatever, hell we even have a Chat on the site. Not much else to say except for Clever Idea, and if it is successful, I support it.
