My computer's been lagging more and more by the day when I use FRAPS. The way it records now is ridiculously bad compared what it used to be back a few months ago. Very random drops of FPS at times and sometimes FRAPS looses complete synch when recording a game and drops to 0 FPS for one second. I usually record VC:MP videos by the way.
Do you guys know what could cause this? Would I need a defrag? If so, can anyone recommend me a good defragger since I don't trust the default one.
Thanks.

From what I've heared, FRAPS slows down games etc anyway.
Whats your PC specs?

Not if it doesn't record.

I have a laptop which can play games with mediocre requirements very well and I've also played RE5 etc on it with no lag. My specs might be shit but I'm planning to somehow upgrade the lappy soon.
It's a HP DV6 laptop.

If your hard drive is nearly full/ has been full - it will seriously cause Fraps to lag (as fraps is constantly writing large file to hard drive whilst you play).

Yeah almost forgot this.
A 3 minute video can cost you up to 2gb.

175/288 GB free on one disk. Guess I should clean up a bit since I have tons of useless shit on it.

Also in the movies tab, watch if you have 30 FPS or more on. It has a major difference in size and quality.
Here's an example:

Do you have one or more physical drives? FRAPS generally works better if you record to a hard drive other than your system drive/the drive where you got the game installed.
Also, defragmenting your hard drive won't hurt you.

If I understood it right, you asked if I had two separate hard drives? No. I just have one HDD partitioned into two.

If fraps is open and recording it lags you a lot. If it's just open it still lags you as far as I concern.. Well I think if you record too much and you don't delete what you don't need or something then it will lag your computer because of too many files. That is all I know. I have FRAPS it doesn't cause me any lag since it's turned off and the 'Movies' folder is empty. I just have it in time I need to record something. Hope I helped..
