Title: Idea regarding the "Mayor Declaration"
Post by: Huntsman on December 06, 2011, 04:35:23 pm
I think that this "OMG IM MAYOR OF THIS SELF CLAIMED LAND" is a way too overused to roleplay.
Since every land in Argonath is Governments property, there could be some elections as an official mayors and such, to bring more RP than just this unnofficial form and to bring some more democracy, because for me atm argonath seems to be Communistic dictatorship

as much support I have for this.

It would limit RP aspects, you are free to RP what ever you want; saying you can't "rp a mayor" without a being "voted" in would "limit RP" for those without many fans.

With that said, for an an RP server; yes. For Argonath would not work out.

K, in that case I'll rp a dictator and let my army kill those who don't like me. Apart from the DM and powergaming, no limits in RP right? This 'mayor' stuff is ridiculous.

Exactly my point
So i can /change name Mikhail_Gorbachev , create a communist army and RP invading Argonath, DMING anyone that has anything agaisnt me

No limits for RP, right? :sig:

Argonath is not a democracy. The owners take what the community has into consideration but we do not have a final vote on things. Owners decide, not players.

I support this, theres alot of snobby people in Argonath who are like "I'm mayor, get out of my land or I call the police" which is very annoying, the only reason someone would not support this is because they are a self-claimed mayor of some random city that are scared they wont win a real election.

SUPPORTED.

Again, this has turned into a moan topic...

I'm not "scared" of anything here, I don't give a shit its a game for god sakes who gives a fuck just have some god damn fun and stop bitching at every little thing.

secondly
Quote
"I'm mayor, get out of my land or I call the police"

I see that to be unacceptable, no person can make this call as that would be forcing RP.

as I said, I do support this and I am one of 6 others who claim to as a side RP be a mayor of Bayside, there is nothing wrong with this idea, its just based on the fact this isn't a RP ((RPG =/= RP)) server it wouldn't work.

Exactly my point

This question deserves no answer. However, I will say this RP what you want with-in the realms of RP and rules of the server, if people want to RP a communist RP and others the retaliation forces then go for it have fun. The server is created for people to not be limited to an RP, as Kojak has said "If you want to RP a tree, there is nothing stopping you". You are taking the meaning of the rule out of context and actual meaning.

Again, I support this, if you can make it work so be it. I'd love to see some RP out of this.

Only if the server recognises people who have already been voted in, and not just claimed land. Like Julio is the Mayor of Palomino Creek, and was voted in

It would be unoffical status, only those choosing to participate in such RP would be recognized, a Major doesn't "claim the land"

In democracy, the Major is head of the local government, he still falls under the power of the state and federal government. He can not amend laws, create new laws with in the city. He can only create an ordinance, which is just a minor thing such as "Cars may not park on x street from time x to time z during snow fall" things like that.

I've removed my harsh comments.

Sure thing. For every action you do, it has a consequence.. Now its up to your to make it a positive or negative one.

Killing people for not liking you could be done in an RP way, yes. But deathmatch? Then prepare for punishment :)

So much bullshit I don't know where to start...

As long as you don't break server rules, you can role-play any role you want and that's that. If you don't like someone being a mayor, dethrone him in a role-play way. This especially goes to criminals -- you got a nice opportunity for some corruptness role-play.

Ok

Basically let me guess
"There is no limits to rp"

Basically there are, i'd like to RP an FBI agent for example, but i would be sued for impersonating

As you see, there ARE

Which I personally find as bullshit, but sadly you're right. Even though there's an official FBI group, the role itself should not be excluded from other players. I blame the group for picking the most generic nickname as their group name ("F.B.I") and having the nerve to accuse others of "imposting" them when using it.

But politics don't have any official groups (yet), so this shouldn't be a problem. At least for now.

From the moment we receive formal mayors in the cities, everything will be fine.  ;)

True Story :D

Someone opened the elections to be the Mayor of Palomino Creek in about May 2010, I put myself forward, next thing you know, people voted me in.

Moral of Story: Don't claim the land, get other people to claim it in your name.

We should just have an un-scripted mayoral vote for each city and the person who wins the vote (Or forum poll :D) is classed as the real mayor of that city for 1 month befor a re-vote is taken and who ever loses the vote but still claims to be ayor is just a fake imposter...

One concern I have regarding the election of official mayors, is the imposition of political power should a non-admin be elected.

The same reason as why the Owners are the only ones qualified as Heads of State, because most players who could possibly be elected as Mayor would begin moaning if they are not given official authority to command Cops, Medics, etc...
