Title: Thoughts on these parts
Post by: Reece on December 14, 2011, 09:51:25 pm
Okay, so I asked you all about the 6 core CPU before, thanks, I decided I will go with a 4 core, as I don't see any dire need or reason to get the 6 core and I think it will simply be a waste of my money, so could you all tell me what you think of these parts?

CPU: AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 Quad Core 3.6GHz (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0064ZSRVO/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d2_g147_i3?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=0ND618TGECS6KY5H7495&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128473&pf_rd_i=468294)

Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0064ZSRVO/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d2_g147_i3?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=0ND618TGECS6KY5H7495&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128473&pf_rd_i=468294)

GPU: XFX Radeon HD 6950 2GB (http://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-Radeon-HD-6950-DisplayPort/dp/B004ULZ7YY/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1323894893&sr=8-6)

PSU: Alpine 600 Watt PSU 120mm (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alpine-Watt-120mm-Gold-Retail/dp/B0056YB0OK/ref=sr_1_14?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323895150&sr=1-14)

Thoughts? BTW, GPU I have made my mind up on, same with PSU. Welcome to suggestions for the rest, but must not go over my budget.

Shitty PSU let me find you another

What's the issue with it? It's 600 Watt which is more than I need and it has all the cable I require.

Is there some issue with part of it?

Prices In Euro
OCZ 600W ModXStream Pro Power Supply - 58.92
http://www.amazon.co.uk/OCZ-600W-ModXStream-Power-Supply/dp/B001GLFD54/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323901988&sr=1-1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/OCZ-600W-ModXStream-Power-Supply/dp/B001GLFD54/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323901988&sr=1-1)

Seasonic 650W M12II Bronze Series Modular Power Supply - 89.99
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seasonic-Modular-Multi-GPU-Technologies-Supported/dp/B00607JMI8/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323901971&sr=1-3 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seasonic-Modular-Multi-GPU-Technologies-Supported/dp/B00607JMI8/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323901971&sr=1-3)

CORSAIR Gaming Series GS600 PC Power Unit - 600 W - 70.26
http://www.amazon.co.uk/CORSAIR-Gaming-GS600-Power-Unit/dp/B004HGNA14/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323901856&sr=1-5 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/CORSAIR-Gaming-GS600-Power-Unit/dp/B004HGNA14/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323901856&sr=1-5)

I would get the Seasonic(Best Of The Best) but seeing as that is probably out of you budget I would get the Antec(Awesome)
I also listed two others Corsair(Seasoncis), OCZ(Good)

What's the issue with it? It's 600 Watt which is more than I need and it has all the cable I require.

Is there some issue with part of it?

No the wattage isn't the problem, the problem is the PSU is not a good brand
The golden rule when buying PSU "Never skimp out on the PSU"
You want a reliable PSU because if a PSU blows it can takes the whole PC with it

Well I have been running on my stock, no branded PSU just fine for almost three years no, while my new GPU will be much more powerful than my others, I don't know if I can justify spending an extra 40 pound on a PSU. The PSU I posted, would that be okay for around 3 months until I can get a new one? My current one is only 350w.

My PSU is the same brand as yours, but the gold fan edition is slightly better (has more cables)

I went for the 750W, wasn't that much more ;D, like a tenner

Go for a XFX Core Edition Pro 550W, reliable and most importantly, cheap. It's something around 60e. Besides, it will be more than enough to run that system.
And as it was mentioned above, the last component to save up from is the power supply.. Sure, you can go and buy a cheap one, but then
after few months you discover that the "cheap" power supply that costed 70e, actually turned out to cost ~720e in worst-case-scenario.

Okay, so the PSU I decided on is this one (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-RS650-ACAAE3-UK-Power-Supply/dp/B0035QAKOM/ref=sr_1_8?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323937180&sr=1-8).

New case is this one (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aerocool-VS9-Tower-Case-Black/dp/B003K2XOL2/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323937323&sr=1-3)

Thoughts? It takes my budget up, so I will not be getting the new keyboard.

That case sucks, it has bad airflow(1 fan and that's exhaust)

Get the Antec Three Hundred
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-Three-Hundred-Midi-Case/dp/B0017Q8IAA/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323958408&sr=1-2 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-Three-Hundred-Midi-Case/dp/B0017Q8IAA/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323958408&sr=1-2)

Best case with best Airflow for its price make sure all your components stay cool

If you don't find 20 reviews enough to convince you, Try reading 1,000+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066)

Okay, so the PSU I decided on is this one (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-RS650-ACAAE3-UK-Power-Supply/dp/B0035QAKOM/ref=sr_1_8?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323937180&sr=1-8).

Not bad, mostly good reviews, some also bad

A posh name does't mean a quality product. Meaning the Cooler Master, so called "branded" power supply, which most likely is just as crappy as the Alpine - with just new stickers.

It requires either experience or connections to manufacturer's, so again, get the XFX 550W power supply, it is only four pounds more expensive
and so far at my workplace, from hundreds of what we sold of them only two has come back for warranty so far. XFX Core Edition Pro 550W - Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-P1-550S-XXB9-PRO550W-Power-Supply/dp/B004RJ8EKI/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323975359&sr=1-1)

As for the Antec 300, it's flooded with faults which lead to an impossible cable routing for a nice and best solution to allow maximum airflow to flow through your case.
Sure, your own recommendation is also the same drill, as are most cheap cases. What I would recommend, is a Bitfenix Shinobi. It may not look as good, but hell it's the best case we currently sell at work for its price.
Bitfenix Shinobi - Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/BitFenix-BFC-SNB-150-KKN1-RP-Shinobi-Midi-Tower-Black/dp/B004ULZA82/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1323975848&sr=1-1)

About the case; I'd go with a Fractal Design if I would want a clean looking case, else, Cooler Master Corsair or Antec

If you use that PSU I'll call the police. :cop: lol

Seriously the PSU is the most important part of the whole build. I would go with serious brands only, Alpine is diabolical. Corsair, OCZ, Thermaltake, Cooler Master, Antec are the 5 main brands I would only consider. Corsair GS600 may be best suited to your build if you are on a medium to low budget. I've just bought a GS700 for a friend's computer and it's great.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004WDWBUS/ref=asc_df_B004WDWBUS5781579?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B004WDWBUS (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004WDWBUS/ref=asc_df_B004WDWBUS5781579?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B004WDWBUS)

Also why take the risk and go with generic shitty RAM, you can get a 4GB Corsair XMS3 stick for about 15 pounds.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMX4GX3M1A1333C9-XMS3-Desktop-Memory/dp/B003ZDJ42O/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1324569358&sr=1-1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMX4GX3M1A1333C9-XMS3-Desktop-Memory/dp/B003ZDJ42O/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1324569358&sr=1-1)

Oh wait and they ripped you off on that bundle LOL.
I'd go with these instead... I have the motherboard and the ram and they are top class great value.
Asus M5A78L-M LX - 44.39 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-M5A78L-M-LX-Motherboard-Unlocker/dp/B004ZOH1I6/ref=sr_1_11?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1324569788&sr=1-11)
AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 - 98.90 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-Bulldozer-FX-4100-Socket-Processor/dp/B005UBNL0A/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1324569510&sr=1-1)
Corsair XMS3 2x 4GB - 31.40 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMX4GX3M1A1333C9-XMS3-Desktop-Memory/dp/B003ZDJ42O/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1324569358&sr=1-1)
TOTAL: 174.69

Then you have some more money to buy a better PSU (or your mum's late Christmas present) ;).

Post Merge: December 22, 2011, 06:03:00 pm
OH BTW.

If you want a decent cheap case... Look no further.

Here's a decent one from Antec, tried, tested and trusted by many gamers.
