Title: adminnnn chek report
Post by: Marcell on January 04, 2012, 10:59:38 pm
since I think its possible to somehow 'mix' a website along with VCMP server (hard to explain what I mean) here is my idea
admins would get some kind of site connected to out server's database, that would require pass to enter.

now basicly the point is, if admin1 is eating his dinner or fapping, he can (without going ingame) check out his 'admin site' by refreshing it, to see if anyone has reported someone else. This would be a good 'tool' for adminz, since ppl wouldn't have to spam their MSNs anymore, as long as they're online

I like this idea. However, it requires three things:

It's already possible to link in-game bans to the ban database, though. Been tested using the MySQL module I made for Squirrel servers on LU; it's just a matter of changing the server ID. Also, it shouldn't just be for reports; maybe viewing a player's information and online time and (for admins) punishment history.

However, the latter requires rewriting an absurd amount of scripts.

It would be good. Some players forget that if there are no admins in game, /c report is rendered useless.

Couldn't it be easy if we would link the server to mIRC and then mIRC links to a mySQL database ?

That just adds an unnecessary intermediary, and we'd then have to write a bot to check the IRC channel. If the IRC channel is inaccessible, we lose the connection to the mySQL database. If the bot gets lost, we lost the connection.

Besides... (http://www.argonathrpg.eu/forum/index.php?topic=72249.0)

Well...I had a lots of plans that involved web panels.
But i dont know jack shit about PHP....

Even if I manage to learn it someday, the server would need a major re-script.
That would involve changing the script's "Data-storage method" from Hashes to SQL.
That would involve changing 65-75% of the current code which is about 12k lines...

I think ill just suggest those plans in LU someday.... :)

One step ahead of you; we're already using SQL. (I think we're the only server that does at this point, too )

Would definitiely support these kinds of features when fully feasible.

well guys, excusing all the pretty boy-talk i just want to have some kind of program/site/whatever so admins can get poked whenever a /c report gets sent. since DM servers have stats transfered to web sites, i thought that would work out

Ye it will work out pretty good.
But, who the fuck is gonna script it?

Never mind that, the first obstacle is converting all the scripts to use SQL storage. The second obstacle is getting approval from the owners for a VC:MP subdomain, and getting the necessary resources to run it.

We actually got a sub-domain confirmed (though for VCE purposes), but I guess the owners have been busy.

Bump all the way to the top

How about implementing something like this:

Create a new seperate page where player has to type in his VCMP login and password(To prevent spam). Player gets annoyed by a rulebreaker,  logs in and then presses "Submit a report".

Admins would get notified in some way that there is a new report submitted.
They look into it, get in game and swing their ban hammer.

It'll take 24 hours to get your report checked there, and takes a long time to write one

Well, you never know.

Honestly, people do look at pretty much everything sent in as soon as possible - but not all actions have to be taken in full-blown public view, right? ;)
