The announcement came a day after thousands of websites took part in a "blackout" to protest against the Stop Online Piracy Act (Sopa) and the Protect Intellectual Property Act (Pipa).
The US Chamber of Commerce has defended the proposed laws saying that enforcement agencies "lack the tools" to effectively apply existing intellectual property laws to the digital world.
Oh this is going to be so delicious!
it will just end up in a large outrage on the internet..
Exactly, like SOPA wasn't enough and now this. It's gonna be fun!
Edit: Found this now: http://thenextweb.com/insider/2012/01/19/anonymous-takes-down-doj-website-in-response-to-megaupload-case/ (http://thenextweb.com/insider/2012/01/19/anonymous-takes-down-doj-website-in-response-to-megaupload-case/)
Edit 2: mpaa.org is down now aswell
Not for long Hevar if FBI actually manages to get the megaupload people convicted. Then Speedyshare, Rapidshare and every other similar service, even without SOPA.
But my biggest question if in this, why not close down Google in the same time? Even if Google is not standing behind Piracy, their own search engine can be used for piracy.
All this Anonymous business is only going to make things a whole lot worse for everyone. That's all they ever do make things worse.Okay. Let them stop doing what they're doing so we can all be assraped by the government. (That was sarcastic.) They're doing more than you're doing.
Taking down sites gives more of a reason for a Government to do things like this.
Get ready for a furthering into a police state and more wars, guys. It's going to be a long ride.
Finally they're admiting the PRC has a far advantadge on this and they want to be like them. :Dimplying China can even come close to the amount of rights violated by the US.
implying China can even come close to the amount of rights violated by the US.
it'd be close
Megaupload deserved it. When you knowingly host copyrighted content and repeatedly ignore DMCA takedown notices, you're violating the law. Just like the police will take down a drug dealer. Sure, he may not be making the drugs himself, but he's still in violation of the law.fact: any pirated content from MU was removed as soon as they figured out it was pirated. Maybe not from the time they existed, but from the last few months, yes. You don't expect every uploading site to magically remove pirated shiz in few minutes, do you?
hurr durr anon is leejun lol hurr durr expect us xd
hurr lets ddos fbi site wear gay fawkes mask and stand in front of their hq durr
so i can get some facebook likes and be an internet superhero durr hurr
What is SOPA and PIFA,I have heard about them million times and I have no idea what is that. :3
No one can simply just close megaupload

I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns regarding proposed legislation to address the problem of online piracy, Smith (R-Texas) said. It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products.

this is one bad jokeYou can't say anything about making bad jokes
What 'bout PIPA?
Alsa, this isn't permanently right?
It says that they are pulling it back for 1 week to make a "better approach".
AFAIK, Obama is against SOPA so it will be harder to pass.
That's what he said when he signed the Defense Bill.
I'm unhappy with the direction this country is heading.
You can't say anything about making bad jokes
Yeah.
"... the bills will be pulled and reworked after intense public pushback. The bills were set to go to vote next week."
As for MegaUpload, Don't spread bullshit unless you know how the things are.
What caused MegaUpload to close was the fact that when a file was reported they only deleted the URL and not the MD5 Hashed File. (Saying this because if someone was trying to upload a file that was already uploaded with MD5 Hash check, it would just generate a new URL to that certain file and not re-upload it), so in-fact only URLs were disabled up-on copyrighted content report, but never the files were delete from the servers, and plus the owners/administrators were sharing copyrighted content between each other via e-mails and they knew about it. If you read battle's post on 2nd page for the official papers, you will see exactly the e-mails recorded.. ;)
"It was shutdown because certain people claims to have lost up to 500million in privacy
Trust me people who pirate never intend to buy so its actually no revenue lost its more of but hurt rich trying to make the rich richer and the poor poorer"
He may talk himself out of getting in trouble when it comes to FBI but what is mum gonna say man?
