Title: Improving Fueling System
Post by: Lazlow on February 22, 2012, 06:14:09 pm
It came to my worrie, that fuel system is long forgotten...

I would like to propose, to re-prioritise vehicle fueling system.
It needs to be more visual that as it is now. The fueling system is working, and when we get to 10/100, we do recieve the message "your low on fuel..." Many havnt seen it for ages, or ever, couse the draining is very low. It may even be that its due to servers part-time lags, which maybe makes some moments to skip the fuel drain. but my proposal:

Fix the gas-meter.
for starters; make all cars less economical.
then if would be an owesome thing, but long and boring work for developers, if each car would have different draining sensativity.. or split in to 5 groups.. such as;

Exotic Cars
4x4
Green Cars
Normal Cars
Trucks

this is just an example. The point would be, to increase the consumtion, so that we could bring scripted job like mechanic be more useful, businesses like "RON", to be more profitable and useful, and to make server more realistic and would give us more things to do and to worrie..

Its out of my knowlage if there is any bugs with current fueling system that is interuptig the progress, or if its just forgoten, and there are bigger issues with server to tackle.. But I think this couldnt hurt, and would improve the RP server. :)

Would be very complicate unfortunately, there was already a topic (http://www.argonathrpg.eu/forum/index.php?topic=74397.0) btw

If the fuel consumption is still like it was before then I must agree, that atleast fuel consumption should be increased. The fuel tank rarely gets empty if ever :poke:

That's why I wanted to suggest to drop the starting fuel for all cars on half of tank ^^

I guess it was already been suggested and denied.

+1 Also a great Idea..

That's true. And I think it would be nice if this would somehow change

Would be good if fuel stats can be saved for each owned car if possible, even if owner quit/crash it would stay same as it was before he left. But as i think its not possible at this stage maybe this should be a bit posponed till new release come out.

I would just want to see bikes, helicopters, cars and trucks having different fuel consumption :P
I don`t ask for much do I?

you do ask for too much.. it would mean for scripters to script over 300+ different vehicles sepereatly for different consumtion.. which might take what.. few good booring hours?
But then would be a dream come true. :)

It can definitely be scripted but I dont think developers want to create a slot for it in database cause what I have heard, every new row in database decreases performance.

We used to have a fuel where fuel consumption was pretty big (maybe even too big), but then it was lowered considerably. I think it was just lowered too much. I like Alessandros solution actually. Doesnt matter what the consumption is, the tank should not fill itself, but if it takes performance then its not worth it.

Well I just had a little talk with Dell about this topic.

Came out that scripting different fuel consuption for every car is not possible. It would make the system very heavy = more crashes, lag etc . .

A solution I thought about was making this system automatic. This means something like: ok this car weighs 1000 so it will consume X1.. this car weighs 1200 so it will consume X2

This would be very complicate aswell so there's no reason for working on this right now. I hope it will become reasonable with a future RS3, when we'll be able to think about cooler and more complicate things. At the moment we should still concentrate on small things or at least not complicate.

You misunderstood me.
I meant that cars consume X amount of fuel, Bikes consume Y amount of fuel, helicopters consume Z amount of fuel etc.

I think what WOULD be possible, is to change the default existing fuel. Instead every car already having 100/100.. why dont we have 60/100? I personaly would preffere 30/100. Sounds a bit too low for some of us.. but this challange what would add that flavour to more realistic driving.. you would even have to plan, if you plan on going to 3rd city.. mb refuel at nearest gas station imediatly.. I think It would give a new meaning to fueling.. and I think someone would be willing to call a mechanic if streets would populate with empty cars.. Wait, i take that back, resets would fix it..

And maybe normalise the general consumtion aswell...

Also, 2 more Ideas..
How about make the flooding "low fuel" message to be less... annoying?
And how about, if car has NO FUEL.. then dont let the car to move even a milimeter? Couse many just drive empty fueled cars little by little, till it gets pushed to gs.. But I believe its been already thouth by scripters, but I think the approach that could be possible, would be as soon as the car would get 0 fuel, make it as it would be kind-of like a "sales" car.. if u move it.. it resets to the possition where fuel was lost.

And get this.. 30/100 fuel.. You would think twice to run away from cops with that :D

I think it is cause by the lag or the script runs too long before ejecting the player. Just a thought.

Maybe this message could start to flicker above the speedometer when fuel is low. This way it wont disturb chat.

Not really :D

Maybe its possible to randomize the default amount of fuel in car ? If it is possible to set default fuel of car then it should be available to randomize that number with a small script ?

This is an awesome idea! Yea, I'd really like a little red indicator somewhere in the speedometer to warn you flashing (analog one) and a written message for the digital (default) one.

1- This can be easily added.
2- No need to database.
3- It will not lag the server.
Next stupid comment on this will get this idea denied.

So tempting... :D
add fuel system on helicopters and maybe even boats?

Thank you for your answer.

I'd like to remember you we're not scripters, so what for you sounds stupid may not be the same thing for us.

If you are not the scripter then dont judge if the it is or not possible, thats the deal.

Then let's block comments to the ideas section . . excuse me but you've been a bit rude. I just wanted to state my opinion, thing I can do freely, can't I?

I actually like this idea, supported.
