Title: Let us use transparent proxies when logging on
Post by: jdixo17 on February 27, 2012, 01:50:24 pm
Hello,

I have around 7 computers all configured with a proxy on the local network so I can password protect the internet, limit bandwidth etc. I was wondering if it was possible to allow us to use these proxies to logon to the forums. It's just a pain having to change the group policy just so I can disable the proxy and log on.

Thanks.

There are certain (free) proxies which are likely blocked (known bots) or banned for being bots etc etc...

FYI, I'm using a proxy right now.

I'm experiencing the same problem when I try to access the forums at school.. Yes, I seriously check the Argonath forums at school.. when i'm bored.

It's likely your school's proxy is used to block certain sites, and it possibly blocks SMF forums, as my schools' does however I have a work around.

Try using something like a VPN, such as hotspot shield to get around the proxy, if this is practical.

Might just add an exception in the group policy... Only solution I can think of right now.

The problem with proxies is that they are often misused. There for we usually do not unblock proxies.
If the use of a proxy makes you able to see the forum but login is banned, PM me so I can review how long this ban has existed.
If you can not see the site or forum at all, use another proxy.

Get a private VPN for about $15/month, problems solved
