Title: Raspberry Pi - Project
Post by: Ben. on March 01, 2012, 09:02:58 pm
Opinions etc?

Basically a computer designed to introduce people to the world of programming, and to make them available to people who wouldn't normally be able to afford them...
$25, I mean, bloody hell, awesome price for something like that? Discuss!

I was surprised when they announced this; that they mentioned its use in eduction.
I don't know about you, but how many schools will have monitors with HDMI connections?

For being able to perform as a 1080p HTPC, not a bad price.

Yeah, that did strike me as weird...I've got a HD monitor, but even that is only DVIE...or w/e you call it. The Pi does seem to be missing a step...has the classic AC cables, but skips VGA completely!

Still, there'll be improvements I guess!

It's about time they started phasing out VGA...

But it's cheap and reliable! I have never had any problems...

I figure, if the Pi is meant to be aimed at a poorer market, then it should be able to connect to cheaper screens

Meh, I cannot personally tell the difference between the different wires in terms of performance, and will not be convinced otherwise :p

So this little thing could teach one the basics of programming or did I get it wrong?

What it is, is just a little mini-computer, which is very cheap, so they can be bought cheaply, and you could teach yourself programming on it etc.

I don't think it teaches you programming by itself

I think it's about time that they taught something more 'advanced' in IT lessons. But hey, some of my teachers can't even word process.

Well, it has "Scratch" on it, which teaches very basic programming. It's open source, so google it and you can download it for free :)
