Title: Having a slow computer? Check here! (Only for windows)
Post by: TheRock on March 09, 2012, 04:21:01 am
Greetings Folks, after searching for some info for another forum and being bored atm  I decided to make this topic to help those who's computer is running slow.
I'll try to list as many and useful options I have, but keep an eye on the big title to see which fits you better. So let's start.

CCleaner (For every Windows O/S)
CCleaner is a quite useful and completely free application which will ensure that your computers run fast. It does so by deleting the temporarily memory of Windows and either fixes the Registry Errors of the computer, which by any new installation always get messed up. You can download it by clicking this! (http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/)

RegistryFix(Trial)(For every Window O/S)
(http://www.registryfix.com/images/head_2.jpg) Although not quite a freeware, Trial is still good at a few things such as removing windows loading tasks (if you know what you are doing, and which are useless.) And at backing up your registry, I'm not quite sure but I believe trial will still fix a few things. I've been using the full version for years, and I gotta say, it was well worth the purchase!
Click me to get it. (http://www.registryfix.com/setup.exe)

Game Accelerator
(http://asset0.cbsistatic.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2009/10/26/81396_257x193.jpg) Game Accelerator is an all-in-one game optimization tool that allows you to play your games at the best level of performance possible. To provide the gaming experience available, Game Accelerator is an all-in-one game optimization tool that allows you to run your games at the best possible performance by eliminating the performance and stability problems that make your games run slower than they should. This is done through easy one-click menu options that allow you to tailor your games to run faster based on your system hardware. To get it, click me! Following option will ONLY work if you use Windows Vista/7 and operate with under 2GB Ram:

ReadyBoost (Windows Vista/7 Pre-installed)
(http://res1.windows.microsoft.com/resbox/en/Windows%207/main/821e1690-ea47-4477-b8cd-623e69dca4df_53.jpg) Basically ReadyBoost is a disk cache component of Microsoft Windows, first introduced with Microsoft's Windows Vista in 2006 and bundled with Windows 7 in 2009. It works by using flash memory, a USB flash drive, SD card, CompactFlash or any kind of portable flash mass storage system as a cache. (Some of you could call it, extra 'ram') and it comes handy if your PC operates at 2GB or less. For those who have 4GB Ram, they wont see any difference at all. Also useful for several games, as this would make them load faster! By the image you can pretty much see how to enable it, Just press options on any saving device (HDD / Memory Stick or a USB Stick) and navigate towards the Tab 'ReadyBoost', by there tick the option to use the device, and select how much of the space you wish it to use!

How to remove unnecessary programs on start-up
This is a quite simple way to remove programs that slow your PC on start-up, or that are really useless. To do this press the Windows Button on your keyboard and together the letter "R" (Windows Button+R), it will prompt you to a 'run' box, then just type "msconfig" and navigate to the tab 'Start Up' from which you can tick the programs that you wish to stop from running each time you boot Windows.

Rest options to speed up your computer:

I hope this helps!
Wrote it all my self, If you wish me to add more ways on the topic, feel free to PM me!

Only if you REALLY have no clue whatsoever of what you're doing, they can cause something unfortunate.

CCleaner can clean the registry also, so RegistryFix, which is a trial, isn't that needed.

I wouldn't suggest messing with registry entries what so ever. As told by a windows expert on windows 7 forums - ''Registry cleanup softwares are just scams'' I do take it true to some extent, everytime I clear registry my Aero theme messes up and I have to re install windows due to problems each and every time when I clean the registry, also cleaning it only makes my computer slow.

However To still keep it clean, I always use Revo Uninstaller pro to un install a program to delete its registry files along with the program.

So far, CCleaner and RegistryFix are not messing my pc, but rather speeding it up after many installations (like after a format and installation of required software.) Yea indeed those which come with other installation software (like for example, anti-virus included) are indeed scams, because they 'fake' scan and then ask for $$ to install 'full version' of that registry fix application, and which even if you do buy, it wont work at all.

CCleaner is a great tool, I meant its registry cleaning option.

The last time I tried a registry cleaner was between 20-29 feb. It came from an ad on speedtest.net. Had to re install my windows within next 4 days of trying it. They do make computer alil faster instantly, but leaves bad affects in long term.
