Pretty much self explanatory. If there could be a way to implement the AJAX chat with IRC it'd be even better for IRC illiterate people. The reason why I'm saying is that IRC is still used and better because it's MUCH more compatible with other devices and OSes. We had one a few years ago and I don't see the point of removing it.

Mibbit is a simple, web-based IRC application which is known to work well. That could easily be used if this was brought back.

mIRC or gtfo
-
I would love an IRC.

The suggestion was for a web-based method too. mIRC is not web-based. If a channel on a publicly-accessible server were created, you could always use mIRC or another client to connect to it also.

not many people used it
but we kinda had fun with Elite & co in the little chat, I guess.

I have always liked this idea.
My phone is terrible when it comes to apps, but IRC is one of the things that there is an app for, its called jIRC :)
And I agree, IRC chats are fairly flexible, easy to manage and can even have script support.

IRC <3
-
I think it would go down very well with some, and be less popular with others.
Not sure how beneficial it would be on a wide scale, though it's not a bad feature. :)
-
The main problem we had with the IRC was that execpt Lavamike nobody has any idea with setting up the server. Until our own solution is ready, I am not against using IRC server, if someone knows how to configure it.

You could also use a pre-existing network and just host free channels, like on GTANet. I'll see about looking into the network idea for you, though. I was trying to do something similar for that MTA project awhile back.

We are never happy to depend on others. ;)

I know that! ;)
Figured it was worth suggesting as a temporary solution, though. I'll try to see what I can find for you in the meantime. :)

Setting up IRC Isn't that hard.

He's talking about setting up an entire network.
-
Yes, an IRC server, still, not that hard.
Just takes a long time and a lot of setting up. :)

Might I recommend using the InspIRCd daemon and Anope services? Can't wait to see irc.argonathrpg.com :D
:ps:
If you need someone to configure it, I could volunteer.
-
inspIRCd is a great IRC server! and works well with Anope

Just read the tutorial on InspIRCd's page, nothing too hard at all.

Would MTA:VC still need an IRC channel?

Would MTA:VC still need an IRC channel?
Need? It has never needed an IRC channel before, but I'm fairly certain if every other server got one, it would too.

Once again, the IRC won't be linked to the servers. There won't be anything to worry about.
If you are talking about IRC itself separately, there is one chat, and there are queries (personal messages). Those can easily be regulated by IRC admins. They don't have to be server admins too.
-
Would we need another Admin Team set up for the IRC too, similar to Server Admins?

Something like it. There would be varying levels of IRCOps (IRC Operators), which are basically IRC administration.

He's referring to this http://www.argonathrpg.eu/forum/chat/index.php (http://www.argonathrpg.eu/forum/chat/index.php) which people begged for now barely use.

Would love to see this.

Was cool back in 2009.

Hey, that IP looks familiar!
It would be nice if the Server Owners could get the DNS set up also so that irc.argonathrpg.eu works :)
