So yeah, I don't know how big game is out in Europe, but here in the UK, they are closing a shit load of stores.. including my local Game Station, although my Game remains open, for now...
This is the biggest high street store collapse in the UK since Woolworths, what are your thoughts on Game and them closing?
Myself, I always thought they were ridiculously over-priced and since the inception of sites like Amazon and Play, they were doomed to fail.

I hope this doesnt end the same as the CD shops, as less and less people are going to buy, but instead of it download the music.
Ofcourse its easier and cheaper to download the music, but seeing as CD shops get closed by this and the music artist would make less money, it might turns into a total mess in the music / game instustry..

We have GAME in Sweden also, so I wonder what will happen here. But I believe it only says they are closing the shops in the U.K and Ireland so.
-
They'll be back up and running within a year or more like Zavvi and Woolworths with online shopping sites.
-
Gamestation is better anyway.

I've heard rumours like a week ago that Game will be closing in Sweden.
-
Gamestation is part of Game (GAME Group PLC) and has also gone into administration..

That's unforunate if that will happen.....

That shit is lame, bro.
We got like four of them in Gothenburg, well populated every day.
-
Even if thoose shops get closed, new and better ones will replace them.

Thats incorrect, shops over the internet & downloading will actually take over.
-
Downloading always been the first place to get games for people. Shops are like secondary or third choice.

During the 4 years I lived in the UK. I shopped at GAME once. It was a massive rip off, I resorted to buying my games in Canada when I travelled back because the majority of prices in the UK for games was incredibly high. i only ever payed british prices when it was a game I HAD TO HAVE.
To be honest I don't see this as a loss :P

What happened to the rumour that Gamestop or the company behind Comet was going to buy them over?
-
Myself, I always thought they were ridiculously over-priced and since the inception of sites like Amazon and Play, they were doomed to fail.
Exactly this. However, their pre-owned deals are extremely good value.

Good deal for the customer, not the person who traded them in ;)

Don't you mean not for the game developers/manufacturers and good for the customers? Seeing as games developers don't make any money from sales of pre-owned titles, which is why companies are putting stocking prices up to deter this, along with the rumours that the next generation of consoles may include a "one console per game" lock system

Of course. I shit you not, Game wanted to give me one quid for about 10 XBOX 360 titles, all of which were relatively new (3-5 years old). But then again, I hardly ever trade in games, so I don't really care.

This was one of the main reasons for the whole GAME/EA controversy. If you go into the store and ask for a title, and they have it pre-owned, they will encourage you to take that copy instead of paying the full retail price for a brand new copy, which in turn was losing EA serious money.
I can't stand EA to be quite honest with all the bullshit that surrounds them such as the decision to realse day 1 DLC, but I guess business is business.
