I'm curious to see what people think here. Define a good role player with your own words.
For me good role player is the one who can develop his character, with the events that happened to him. Also the one who is able to lose. These two things in one makes you good role player.

Creative and thinking outside of the box in order to create new roleplay situations.
-
A good role player is someone who doesn't fuck up in messy situations.
-
A good roleplay is a newbie with miniguns! :D

In my opinion a good RPer is someone who knows the difference between reality and a game, but at the same time put some reality into the game itself. Everyone can RP, but from different levels, someone is always better than other. By the time a player gets taught how to RP. I always considered those with a good mood and gives other opportunities to RP, a very good RPer. Someone who gives chances to others to show themselves of what they're capable of. :)

Someone who is not afraid of roleplay situations that won't turn into their favor. One that won't pull out a gun when surrounded by 10 people.
Someone that can see past the nametag and simply use imagination.
Also, one that does not overuse /me for every little thing like "/me steps forward". If you can see it, there is no need to roleplay it...

Yeah I agree. The guys that constantly use /me for every little action are really boring..

The night would be a day without your agreement.

A good roleplayer is someone that can adapt to every situation and roleplay it. The use of their own imagination and creativity is a mainfactor.
And a good roleplayer is someone that can easily distinguish what's roleplay or not.

And I agree with Comrey here.

An individual who role-plays not only for his/her own enchantment, but making every role-play situation thrive into something incomparable; which is out of the normal.
An individual who can curve someone else's stereotypical scenario into one that amuses them both, whether the opponent is an exceptional role-player or a relatively new player.
An individual who can slightly develop his/her own character through happenings in in-game scenarios, whether it's for good or bad.
An individual who can adjust themselves to any role.

I hear a lot of good things. For me everything is basically already said in the first 2 posts.

Role playing is acting. there are different kind of actors.
A soap actor is someone who stays in his character for a long time, and produces the lines the writers wrote. Little improvisation, and if placed outside his series more often than not seems to drown. A soap actor puts a lot of himself in to the character, and adds what he would like to be but is not.
An action hero is someone who uses his fighting skills and (often) impressive looks more than spoken text. The context of dead bodies, explosions and overacted looks and screams is more important as the text, as he would never be able to think of anything original.
A classical actor can change in to any role, and perform at any stage. He can improvise and guide other actors to resume the path of the act, and he will often input his thoughts not in his own style, but in style of the character he plays that can be something totally distant from himself. He is one of the few who can play without needing violence or special effects. Regardless of being serious or funny, you will remember some of his acts.
We have a number of soap actors, a number of action heroes. But the top players are the classical actors.

A good role player is the one
who is versatile,
who knows the correct usage of various commands relating to role play,
who can distinguish between free roaming, death matching and role play,
who can change his level of role play according to the other person,
who can stay calm and confident throughout the role play and not start any war (ranging from flame to 'you can't role play' wars.),
who does not moan about other's nuisance role play and rather teaches him and does not start insulting him in-game/forums.

I guess i repeated you then, haha. Sorry!

A good RPer is the guy who writes long /me's with no sense and very hard words.. impossible to understand..

Your question is interesting.
First,define "roleplay",means to act as a character.
So different character have different styles.
In my opinion,Shoot the one who is too deserved a bullet in his butt instead of trash talking too much with him, help the one who are actually in needed instead of talking too much.
General speaking,be yourself, reflect the true self,I used to use chinese phrases and background when roleplaying a gangsters..do you think it is a good roleplayer?

Me

Me
No, me :rules:

In my opinion, someone that uses imagintion in order to succeed on any RP of his/her, someone who is open to everybody and doesn't 'reject' of some players just because they are 'new' registered, a role model like Jcstodds.
Keys: Patience, Imagination & As well as friendly attitude.
-
The most important key to proper roleplay is to allow the other person an "out."
-Good communication skills
-Use of descriptive language
-Grammar and speaking style relative to their character
-Allows the other participants an out.
-Stay within realms that everyone involved agrees upon
-Keeps roleplay within the roleplay
-
A good role player is a player that can imagine and act out situations which are fun for everybody. Not everything can be finished with shooting/killing.
-
So far, all posts are interesting. I can not lie that people like Sauron, Chaska, Chucho and TheRock grabbed my interest. I might learn something.
-
Someone who knows how to place themselves in the role they desire to act out. (capability)
Someone who does not need all sorts of crutches to use their imaginations properly. (creativity)
Someone who can learn from their roleplays and apply the knowledge to the next one, making it progressively better. (cognition)
Someone who considers the other people involved in the roleplay, and not just themselves. (consideration)
And lastly, something important which many of our players have sadly forgotten...
Someone who can have good and honest fun with the others involved, regardless of their role in the server. (comradeship / sportsmanship)
-
The ability to act the role of the character you are playing as accurately as possible with the resources available.
-
Someone who plays for fun and interactivity, and does not judge / rate roleplay.
