Title: Eurovision Song Contest 2012 - Baku
Post by: Emre on May 24, 2012, 08:58:28 pm
Debate. What do you think of the semi finals, the nations that have been elected to the finals and those who will compete in today's second semi-finals. Which countries are those with potential and which countries are totally miserable this year?

Sweden is likely going to win.
The current Eurovision crowd loves simple techno more than anything.
Serbia is also a great candidate this year, along with Russia.

Yup I think Sweden is going to win. She've got an amazing voice. Althought I think Russia is going to come far aswell.
But Tuesday the firts semi-finals, most of them songs were bad. Second semi-final they were like all good.
Greece got also an awesome song and Serbia aswell. However I'll vote for Azerbaijan. <3

Didn't watch it this year. It's become a politics show (or always has been) rather a song contest. Or, in the case of Romania, a hotness contest...

The only songs I liked were Denmark's Soluna Samay - Should've Known Better and Hungary's Compact Disco - Sound of our Hearts.

It was always like that, neighbour countries voting for each other (Scandinavia, Baltics, Iberia, Balkans etc.)

However I'll vote for Azerbaijan. <3

I never vote, most of the times the vote never goes where it's supposed to be, besides it costs  :(

Loreen - Euphoria HQ (Sweden Eurovision Song Contest 2012) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4PMQB5zmAU#ws)

Sweden will win  Probaly one of the best singers we have sent in ages, finally some quality.. Although it could have been better (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFYpDf_6rKA#ws).

I laughed at Slovakia (no offence) but his voice was scratch

Something that still bugs me -no offense towards anyone who comes from the Balkan- no matter whether Eurovision groups or football groups is that balkan countries take too many spots while most of the time they don't even get through, or if they do, then because the neighboured countries vote for eachother and for nobody else who really had the potential to be in the finals.

Name a Balkan country that didn't deserve to go trough.

What I think Serbia was good and it was already in the favourites before he performed, so I think you are not right about that one. Althought it's still your opinion. I think Serbia got also a good chance to win or get in the top list.

Macedonia, Croatia and Serbia.
Funny, no offense to anyone from Turkey either, but I think that Macedonia Croatia and Serbia all had better performances than Turkey.
You say that the Balkan countries are scratching each others backs but what about Turkey?
They are asskissing Azerbaijan to go through.
Again, no offense, just pointing out the facts.

HD Eurovision 2012 Estonia: Ott Lepland - Kuula (Semi-Final 2) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wX6kBIVCQ-4#ws)

One of few songs that doesnt speak about love or w/e, like most of songs does.

How exactly does Balkan countries 'vote' for each other in football groups? You made no sence..

As for Eurovision, if it wasn't for you Ottomans, Balkan would have 3-4 big countries, now we got 20, so blame yourself.

Also, its not the countries that vote for each other, since less then 15 years ago we were killing each other and people are still hating, its the minorities in those countries who vote for their homeland. I mean Serbs in example, live in Montenegro, Bosnia, Macedonia, Croatia, in some of them they're even majorities.
And also believe me, I would accept being constantly last in Eurosong for the next 300 years, if it was for my people to live in a United Serbia again.

To Stefano : I respect your opinion, but no, we are not and that is why -I'm sure- we'll not even be in the top 10 of the finals.

Cof : You're just so stupid that you have to equivocate and mix shit into other shit. You don't get my point. You keep turning simple thoughts into hatre and a reason to turn this into a dispute. Why won't you just ... you know ... become less madje ?

The Russian grannies had a lot of support from the crowd. Sure they are not the best voices but they are showing real spirit. Only Norway and Romania came close for me, other wer just generic pop songs.
We will see what the votes say...

You should learn to address people without flaming. You aint gonna be tough over internet if you do it. I pointed out your hypocrit attitude cause of your comment toward Balkan countries, while you and a big majority of Turks in Germany will vote for Turkey representative. And there's no reason to cry about it.

Greece, Cyprus, Romania, and Grannies. There's alot of good songs this years, like Sweden, its a hard desicion.

I'm sad that people can't vote on things like this without bias (not talking about the winners)... I'm talking about countries giving out points to their neighbours just because they're neighbours (e.g. the balkans), emigrants giving points to their home countries or direct political bias (Georgia giving 12 pts to Lithuania)..

Congrats to Sweden though!
Title: Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2012 - Baku

Any count that comes from Scandinavia, the Baltic states, the Balkan or the mid east has sure had neighbour-advantages (Especially Turkey, FYR Macedonia, Albania and ... yeah that is it). This thing turns into political matters, but Sweden's victory was somewhat obvious.

Gimli, please could you PM how is Georgia politically biased toward Lithuania? I do though agree with you to some degree, but as you know some of it is already decreased by the fact that half of the points by all the countries are given by the jury. That counts for Estonia for example not giving 12 points toward Russia anymore. Also it is not that bad in Western and Northern Europe for some reason. Also if you think that politics is so much part of it, then I ask why doesn't the winners repeat so often? You know last time Sweden won was in 1999.

Anyway congratulations to Sweden. Also I loved the lack of euphoria when  Loreen went to the stage for the final performance. Like a true Northerner.

Because of Lithuania's immense support (along with other Baltic countries) for Georgia during the 2008 Russia - Georgia conflict / South Ossetia war - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protests_regarding_2008_South_Ossetia_war (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protests_regarding_2008_South_Ossetia_war)

beside that we got points from Russia, the other side of that political event. You can try and make it a political matter as much as you can, but in the end still the country with the best song out of those will win.
