Wow 44 posts and I didn't think to introduce myself at all lol.
Well where to begin. I'm a 21-year-old college student pursuing dual Associates of Applied Science degrees in Network Security and Digital Forensics, and I'll be graduating in December. Network security is pretty self-explanatory but I'm sure some of you are like "wtf is digital forensics"?. DF is basically CSI for technology. Forensic analysts such as myself will go to a crime scene and collect computers, cell phones, PDAs, flash drives, anything that can hold information, then take it back to our secret lair and break them down and search for files containing information pertaining to a crime that could convict or acquit a suspect...in other words, I can find ur pr0nz :D. We can even get files that you deleted a year ago thinking no one will ever know. For example if a drug kingpin was arrested, his stuff would be extensively searched for any material that could reveal his sellers or other information, on top of everything else. Our crime scenes aren't all bloody like CSI though. Any computer/device sitting anywhere could be a crime scene if it was used in connection with or to commit a crime. After I graduate I am going to get in with the Texas DPS and hopefully work my way up to CIA/FBI working on high profile cases.
:ps: Any time you see on TV the "tech guys", as they like to call us, or Abby Sciuto (yes I'm an NCIS fan) working directly ON a suspect's laptop or whatever, it's BS. I won't get into the technical aspects but it's never done that way IRL.
I'm not the typical computer dude you would expect. Yes I wear glasses, but I hate stereotypes. I drive a crew cab F350 4x4 diesel and wouldn't have anything else. especially a frickin' Prius. I listen to country music and don't care who doesn't like it.
Aside from schoolwork and SAMP, I have written a couple of programs, most notably a batch program that is an aid to SAAT that keeps you from screwing up your game audio by trying to do the commands manually. I'm fixing a few bugs but should be releasing it soon. I also am moderately great with Photoshop and enjoy making sigs and other graphic stuff, though recently I haven't had much time to.
So now that I've fully bored you with my life, I guess I'll say what I do in the server. As all of you can tell from my sig, I'm a firefighter in San Andreas County Services and a teacher for SFDS along with working at Argo Towing and Green Line Trucking.
I've met a lot of you both here and ingame already, but for those I haven't, hope to see you and play with you sometime.
:ps: First person who can guess what movie my forum name is from will get a cookie and $1000 AD when I next see you.

That is why I keep a magnet next to my desk sir. :D

NO!! MAGNETS ARE MY KRYPTONITE!!! haha
There's still a slight probability that something could be recovered, always that 0.0000000000000001% chance. There's only one way other than physically brutally damaging the hard drive beyond all recognition that can totally erase all its data and guarantee zero recovery chances, but I won't say...it's trade secret. :P

Gone in sixty seconds. And welcome btw :D
http://www.dban.org/ (http://www.dban.org/) Totally erases Hard Drives, and is better than zeroing.

Then I'm pretty sure you have roasted nuts by now.
Think that falls in with my "physically brutally damaging the hard drive beyond all recognition" statement. You could also destroy your microwave too and make a nice lightshow. Only problem is it takes time to put le hard drive in le microwave. You could put an entire laptop in one too I guess.
Also if you're in a corporate environment like a cubicle you can't really just nuke your workstation HD or get a big enough magnet to it. A lot of what we do includes employees doing illegal activities from work and abusing company resources as well, not just hardcore perps (enter child pornographers here). Also note the other sources of data described. I forgot to include servers with logs and network forensics.

Actually saw something today in an article that made me lol. I would love to have this job:
If you'd rather not destroy your hard drive yourself, several companies offer the service for a fee. A few services will even fire a round of bullets through your hard drive and send you the video!

People do, every day. Instead of saving the world they're playing online poker or whatever.
Data doesn't even have to be stored anywhere. An examiner can sit on a network with Wireshark open and capture suspicious live traffic.
