Propellers have been attached to each of the stuffed cat's four paws, enabling him to fly across rooms at the touch of a remote control. Jansen has insisted that the project is a respectful and appropriate way of honouring his beloved cat, who was named after American aviation pioneer Orville Wright. 'After a period of mourning he received his propellers posthumously,' the artist said. However, it seems that the machine is not yet the finished article and Jansen has pledged to make improvements to the design, as the Orvillecopter cannot yet fly without interruptions. Think of it as an acient habit / tradition. When a living being, which was precious and important to us, dies, it is buried to give it eternal rest, and return it to the earth, from where it came. When you stuff a dead cat and make a helicopter out of it, it's not burying it, it's not giving it eternal rest and it is not returning it to the earth, but growing in distance to it.
I'll be honest, this didn't pop to my mind. :lol: But you have a point I guess, provided you believe in all that. In all honesty though, I find being made into a helicopter a hell of a cooler posthumous existence.
I wonder what will his reaction be when the dead cat starts to raw and smell, buy another one?...if he did the taxidermy well, it wont smell or rot :)
