Title: Laptop freezes on startup
Post by: Salvatore_Zambino on June 08, 2012, 06:49:57 pm
Hey guys, I have a MSI CX623, and it was working fine a couple of days ago, now when I try to log on it freezes and that cup icon light goes off. I tried restoring the computer to three times, but it still freezes when trying to log in.

Other things I have tried:
- Isolating ram modules to see if there is any faulty ram - there isn't.
- Windows repair - Just told me that there may be an audio device plugged in ect ect

- Thanks in Advance.

I CAN RUN ON SAFE MODE!

Do you have any external hard drives connected? Any speakers or headphones connected?
If yes, try startup the laptop with not even a USB mouse connected, just with the power cable plugged in and see.
Also if it has WiFi, try with WiFi turned off and any LAN Cable disconnected.

Try restoring back a few days, inside safe mode.

Contact your seller, if you have the warranty.
If no, give it to a professional.

If it works in safe mode, then it is undoubtedly a software issue of some description.

Where does it freeze?

Since you can actually run on Safe Mode I assume some program stucks it. You need to open on Safe Mode with Command Prompt, press Windows Logo and "R" on your keyboard, it will open up a command prompt, type "msconfig" and go on the tab "start-up", it's a list of services/programs which run each time you launch the operating system on normal mode, I would like to see a screenshot of that tab and advise you what to remove and what to keep (for example an service called ctfmon.exe is for the windows sound..) then if you remove all the files which are useless the problem will be solved, since the service that actually blocks the start-up will be removed ;)

ps: the tab shall looks like; (http://plarzoid.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/msconfig2.jpg)
