Title: Possible graphic cards problem(?)
Post by: .Tony on June 17, 2012, 12:32:26 pm
Well basicly, when I am playing any game for at least 15-30 mins, it shuts down and I have to turn my PC on again, it isn't over-heating or anything, because I am aware of it. And just a few minutes ago, I tried to change my resolution in-game, which made my screen flash red for a few seconds, then it became normal again. But I don't know why it is shutting down all the time, should I update my graphic's card drivers or similiar?

Open up run and type in dxdiag, save the text and copy paste it here, we can see if it's bad drivers then.

Try running FurMark burn-in test to see if increased temperature or GPU load causes your issues.

Which text exactly? The one that is on the first page or any other tab?

Click on "Save All Information" then open up the file and copy + paste it here.

Made it as a .txt file instead.

Ok, I see no errors in your drivers; so it's not a problem with them, at least from what I can see. Try updating all of your core drivers, sounds, graphics, etc etc just incase.

Okay, but my PC still keeps turning off.. That is making me a bit annoyed, but I will also buy a new PC soon, however. I'll see if updating all the drivers will help.

As well as the program IcyAero suggested try programs such as, Coretemp(Used to monitor processor core temperature), Realtemp(Similar to Coretemp) and speedfan to monitor temperatures.

It certainly sounds like an overheating issue with the shutdowns.

I've checked the temperatures, seems like my GPU is going a bit warmer than it should. (70-80) But I've updated my drivers now and I haven't had a single shut down from that, so I guess this is solved for now, thanks for your help anyways, I appreciate it.  ;)

What's your graphics card? We will be able to find out if those temperatures are the average when gaming. Though i would say a demanding game would make your  cards temperature rise that high.

Appears to be about right yes, especially if it's passively cooled.

Well, it doesn't over-heat or similiar when I'm just browsing the forums, but it begun to do so now aswell. But I believe it's a fan that is full of dust so it can't cool enough to keep it stable.

im thinking it could be faulty ram, it could be ram needing a reseed.
it could be CPU clock faults.

My 1st step (after check drivers as above) would be to re-seed your ram.
Take your Ram out, then put back in.

Even if the issue isnt with the ram, reseeding it does not hurt and can be helpful.
Also if you have a laptop, taking out the ram and or harddrive does not break most of the laptop brands warranties.

Are you getting any strange things happening with your screen, for example funny shapes on your screen, black/colourful spots, at any time while using your PC?

If so this means its the graphics card, otherwise, so far it seems unlikely.

Well, now I've encountered something strange, that never has happend to me before. I don't either know what that is causing it. Whenever I type /q in a server, doesn't matter which, I get an error saying '' The preferenced memory on dx00...something couldn't be read '' and then, when I click on the '' ok '' button, my resolution gets to like 400x220, really close than it should be. And if I restart my PC, it gets back to normal...
