Title: Microsoft back in the game? Unveils "Surface"
Post by: Teddy on June 20, 2012, 02:39:07 am
(http://www.microsoft.com/global/surface/en/us/publishingimages/new/hero.jpg)Recently in a keynote speech Microsoft reveals its latest addition to the PC world, a product known as "Surface". After personally watching the full 45 min speech, it is truly a remarkable product. However, others remain doubtful if it can challenge the iPad.

While the professional version, which will run Windows 8 along its attachable seamless keyboard and provide as both a laptop, and tablet device with "the best wifi possible on a table".

What do you think of this new product? Regardless if your an apple fanboy or Windows lover.

I'll wait until hands on reviews come out.

What people usually look for (basic): Battery life and other random stuff.

Battery life has to be impressive. Given the advanced and revolutionary changes the tablet brings from just watching the keynote... Anything short of impressive battery life would be a disappointment. Which does lead me to belive it may not be great, as it was left out of the keynote speech.

Also, during the key note it appeared as tho during the presentation the tablet bugged out, and the presenter had to grab another one; So that is kinda iffy. However, in all. More reviews, information and most importantly pricing will need to be released before I set my mind on buying one.

Given its current state, I'd but it; but other factors are yet to be know I suppose.

Windows 8 is more designed to this type of platform (portable). With that in mind, it does personally bring some assurance to its ability with windows 8. The nonprofessional version will run Windows RN.

I honestly don't understand your point.

they certainly arent top player supreme x2 in portable devices

Ikr! Who uses a zune. Thats about the only thing that comes to mind when I think of portable & Microsoft.

What I like about it is the detachable keyboard other tablet computers don't have. I've used my friend's Samsung tablet and its screen turned into a smudged piece of shit after 5 minutes; having a light keyboard that you can easily carry around is the way to go for tablets.

Indeed, the keyboard is amazing. It also folds behind the back, and acts as a cover as well. So; you don't really even need to detach it, and according to Microsoft... its the fastest Keyboard available; the device comes with a touch pad like; where the keys are soft they appear almost felt like; but they will have also a hard-type keyboard; more the plastic keys.

Also another amazing feature is the windows color scheme changes when you attach your keyboard to the color the keyboard. So you attach a blue one; Windows 8 start background becomes blue; Red keyboard, start background becomes red.. and so on. Kinda simple, but pretty neat.

Also, on that same idea the new "inking" system; The Surface detects the pen proximity, and if your writing on it, it disables touch input.. so you don't get that slopping moving screen shit you get on other tablets and inking devices.

It's not a Netflix-produced tv show though, they just have exclusive US rights and it doesn't even work on Netflix UK..

Unsurprising that Microsoft would put in their own tablet.

Apple would most likely still be holding pole positions, or at least for a time, perhaps in part due to its name and brand identity.
This looks quite sleek, too, however, although it'd be even less portable than the iPad, for instance - which I find a little difficult just moving around without a bag.

I've had a go with Windows 8, and a number of its features (including the Start menu) are a lot more interactive and has been designed with touch-screen usability in mind.
