Definitely an act of fanaticism or drunkenness. I do not wish to stir problems but I point at young people, possibly of foreign origin.
This is just my assumption, don't get all "Immigrant hate!" on me.

It is a shameful act solely for the reason the soldiers were basically still teenagers. I know a bullet doesn't choose its victim but this is just sad.

It's sad to see people still hate after 100 years. I hope this - at least will not be repeated.

Reminds me of this.

Libyan muslims desecrate British war graves (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQsuX4cZKgM#ws)

Similar motives?

The problem with introducing a culture of black and white , good and evil and nothing in between is that people never learn to understand reality. Schools and the American influence entertainment and media contribute negatively to this, and create an atmosphere where people no longer are able to look at shades of grey.
There is no such thing as good and bad, black and white. People believe based on their culture and education, not because they are good or evil. The people who are displayed as evil all have the capacity to love and feel.
An act like this shows that education fails. It concentrates on 'we won from the evil' instead of going in to the origins and importance of the conflict. Do not blame the idiots who destroyed the graves, they were never educated to know better.

That would imply that there should only be ONE way of thinking would it not? Such a statement cannot be made unless the motive for destroying the graves was clear?

These idiots were educated, but how? We don't know. We consider this act unacceptable and they don't, what is the difference?
Such thing as education does not exist. This is one of the main problems in philosophy. What is education? A collection of "facts". What are facts? Are they correct? Do they teach us right? How can they teach us right when professors/teachers are people, not robots. They are prone to subjective conclusions. Do they follow their program 100%?
Education is another trait to make a greater difference between white and black, Gandalf. Knowledge is trade goods nowadays. The people don't want to be slow, methodical and resoruceful, they want instant/fast-"knowledge". Why did we start building fast food restaurants, what do you think?

If graves are destroyed regularly and random one can not guess the motive.
If they are destroyed on a day of remembrance, the motive is easy to guess.

It is very disrespectful to go to a 100 year old grave and start vandalizing it. It is disgusting to be honest. Let them rest in peace.

Fast food restaurant are nothing new. In Napoleon's time small restaurants were made to serve a simple and fast meal. They are still known under the Russian call to do something quickly: Bistro.

As for education, do not confuse it with schooling. School is only a part of the education process a person goes through, even if its an important part. Education is also done by the surroundings and environment. Things like parents (a diminishing factor it seems) and entertainment (movies, music) as wel as nowadays internet and social media are a strong influence on education.
The old educational methods are getting outdated, but new methods are less certain to be correct.

History is written by the victors. What's right and wrong we can't know for certain. (I am talking about history education now)
You got me there with the education as nurture, I rushed and missed this very essential factor. That still doesn't change the question. What is history knowledge except verbal/physical signs passed on to generations? Modern educational system reminds me of that game, Chinese whispers.
That's why we have people like these dishonoring the dead.

Its most likely their education system which teaches them to hate like that.

History is written by the victors.
Not entirely correct. You can always find literature from both sides of any war. And in any case in modern history sources about anything from both sides. Just have to go to the mystical place called library and seek for yourself or ask there.

I'll take the WWII casualties statistics (in Yugoslavia) as an example. I won't continue counting victims because I just might spark an argument so look those data for yourself and see which one prevail. This is a single example among many.
There is this thing, it's called public opinion and it's highly contagious and often confusing.

Libraries are pretty famous for taking those books out that are deemed unfit.

Different libraries see different books as unfit.

Different libraries see different books as unfit.
Which means that you would have to go to different libraries to collect all things.
