I often come across .gif signatures that are HUGE (over 5mb in size). Loaded from imageshack servers that takes forever to load. Please limit the size of signatures...
-
Give me a link to the signature plz..I'll take a look..
Look my signature Edited,Resized and uploaded on imageshack.com = No problem
-
This is truly annoying, at times it takes far too long to open pages with a slow net connection like mine (30kb/s download speed), and to add insult to injury, the 5mb+ signatures that have to load too.
There is nothing really wrong with the .gif signatures, but it just gets annoying having to wait for pages to open due to users "large in size" signatures.
-
We have the option to remove links which would solve the problem, as signature images would have to be uploaded here.
However this might affect a lot of other things as well.

But would you accept being disallowed to have your current signature and having to re-upload it directly?
-
Apologies for the slightly late reply.
A whopping 7mb signature by Caltson. (http://www.argonathrpg.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4152)
I'd like you to just implement a rule on it, but re-uploading should not be a problem to anyone really.

So you're telling me, you have to load the page entirely and then it shows it? Mine doesn't do that.
I simply stop the page loading after it loads all the posts, it doesn't affect my reading if the signature isn't finished.

Loads only half the page for me, if I do that.

I'm using Chrome on a 20kb/s download rate, works fine if I do it

I click on the 'new' button to go to the unread posts. It doesn't hop there until everything is loaded.

You have two links in your signature. The only way to disable would be to remove the capacity of adding links, which means your signature would also be affected.

That would certainly upset many. How about making such a rule then?
-
Yea please don't disable signature links, they're really useful. I think the massive gif signatures are rare enough that a rule would do the trick.

This is a viable means of dealing with the matter, you do not often find members with large gif signatures but at times you get people with large gif files.
If you had to remove the URL/Link part, many people that have "click-able" links to lets say their groups topic would be affected.

Profile > Modify Profile > Look and Layout > "Don't show users' signatures."...?

Profile > Modify Profile > Look and Layout > "Don't show users' signatures."...?
That hides every signature... I just want to limit the maximum size of images in signatures. Everything else is fine.
-
Some signatures just look strangely big but a resizing option can be added I assume.

I assume you are referring to the actual image size / pixel size and not what we are referring to which is the "size (mb)" of the file itself.

And as far as I know, they already are resized.

2012 and people still complain about slow loading pages

7mb + imageshack = your net doesn't matter

Not everywhere in the world are high speed connections available, and a number of people is using phones with EDGE technology, where such things matter not just for speed, but they actually get charged for data traffic.

True that, I used to have a 1Gb Cap per month, open lets say 10 pages with signatures of around 7Mb each on each page, 70Mb gone already.

If you use photobucket instead of imageshack it'll automatically justify itself after how the forum want it. Take a look at my signature, then you right click on it and open it. It's a lot bigger than what's shown.

The forum is just resizing it, it's still loading the full image. Left click on it and it'll expand in your signature window.

Bump...

Adblock it.

I thought Argonath gets its money from ads.

It does, you don't have to run adblocker on the whole site. Simply find the image causing a problem, right clicjk, ad-block > block this ad.

Either way, this doesn't solve the problem. I certainly like looking at signatures, but when they are resized wallpapers or similar... No. Also, this might work for me (but it's way too much work to look for large pictures anyways), but we have people who may not install anything on their computers (how did they get sa:mp?), including browser addons.
