Im not the right person to explain i know very less about it and the bad things in pics yes those are from a holy place and are connected to river Ganga too much of big history backing it to the explanation of corpse flown in rivers lots of sadhus, pilgrims visiting dipping in it water to clean up there past bad things and to clear the karma (something like that dont know exactly) Its the most holy river and yes was the most polluted too in past years but hard steps have been taken by many environment and its much clean now compared to what it was few years back..
Just some of small info here > (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganges (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganges))
Anyways seems like the photographer wanted to show only the bad side of India :D
here are some pics to refresh (note some are from the same place ;)

Uhm old times TV channels was saying "Incredible India " :conf:
-
Yup. One of the places mentioned there is where I was born. My parents have taken me to the temple in that town but we avoided the disgusting areas. I've moved out of that town but still visit it quite a few times in a year. It's only an hour away fromm where I live but lack of time doesn't allow me to go there more often.
P.S. Never been to the area where dead corpses float.

Disgusting, and sad.
-
This indeed is a long history and tradition. It's disgusting, fascinating and beautiful at the same time.
-
That dead bodies are really looking cool. :devroll:
-
Holy mother, I can't finish my sandwich now.
-
Well that was absolutely fu- :skull: :skull: -ing disgusting, but it made me hungry.
May I borrow your sandwich, John?
-
Traditions are to be respected, no matter how filthy, disgusting or inappropriate, though I find these traditions in public really inappropriate. What we see here is a civilization that still has not progressed due to the corrupted government and the past colonization of West. Just like the rest of the world was 100-300 years ago.
-
My father was in such places during his mount everest expedition, seems pretty real to me lol

You call that disgusting, i have been living in that disgusting for over 14 years now. And trust me, those photos dont even reflect the worst of it..

Well, technically when the britishers came to India, it was the richest country in the world, when they left it, they were the richest, and india was at the bottom...
But thats all behind us, the population of my country is to blame for its current state.
Corruption,over-attatchment to religious beliefs and pretty much being full on selfish.

Yeah I understand this part-

but GB has nothing to do with the current state of India. 65 Years are enough for complete development, so the state shown in the picture is partly (or wholly) because of these religious people. Personally, I'm religious but I don't bath/drink next to a corpse nor do I eat sweet already picked by rats.
-
Okay sorry for bad understanding,

That's pretty f**king digusting.
Bathing while a rotten corpse floats by? /vomit.
That is what is also think about, /vomit +1

When my grandpa died,we took a boat and went to the center of the river.I had to bath and DRINK the water, while his corpse was closer to me than the boat..
