Title: GoDaddy Hacked
Post by: Reece on September 11, 2012, 11:44:19 am
GoDaddy, the internet's largest domain registrar, was hacked on Monday morning by a member of the Anonymous hacking group. Although it was not clear how many websites were affected, "DNS" or Domain Name System, "GoDaddy" and "Anonymous" are trending on Twitter, as thousands of clients and observers comment on the outage.

A hacker identifying himself as the Security leader of Anonymous claimed responsibility shortly after the attack. @AnonymousOwn3r  said he hacked GoDaddy because: "I'd like to test how the cyber security is safe and for more reasons that I can not talk now."

Also on Twitter, GoDaddy customer service representatives said  they were overwhelmed with complaints, but were working on the problem.

GoDaddy is also one of the biggest hosting providers on the internet, housing the content for millions of websites. Domains affected by the attack range from small community groups like Little Rock Mommies , an online group for mothers in Central Arkansas, to Coursera , an online education company, to JHill's Staffing  Services, a Los Angeles-based recruitment & career consulting firm.

Anonymous is a loose collection of hackers who co-ordinate online and infiltrate websites as a form of protest against governments or corporations they view as oppressive or corrupt. In a tweet, @AnonymousOwn3r claimed that he acted alone and without the cooperation of other Anonymous members.

Since its creation in 2003, Anonymous has claimed responsibility for several high-profile hackings including the recent takedowns of several UK government sites in April 2012 and that of CIA.gov in February 2012

Humm this sounds more like 1337Security more then Anon as Anon has been focusing mainly on the Political Rally's and Protests lately other then this current OP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6If7vTIf1A#) and have quite a few protest OPs undergoing and in the process. Still it could be a rouge taking the name and idea of Anonymous, i find it laughable that HostGator thinks the are safe, thats the next target they should be in fear or maybe they plan to cash in real quick before they too get attacked.

Crashed*

Security leader of Anonymous

Bullshit, Anonymous has no official members, no rankings, and no leaders. Cool story bro.

As rare as this happens, Taylor has a point. This doesn't sound like an attack Anonymous would make... This has no motivation that aligns with the "anonymous" common understanding. As Anonymous has no official members, really anyone can say "I'm Anonymous" and hey, your anonymous. Gratz... I think you'll find this guy is just using Anonymous as a cover face as many hackers may do now. However, it does sound like an attack AntiSec would pull off.

Seems like their DNS server were DoS:ed and they had to move to Verisign for a while, moved back already however.

I've used Godaddy for 4 years, never had a problem like this before, or actually any outage. So I think you should read up on your sources.

Seems like their DNS server were DoS:ed and they had to move to Verisign for a while, moved back already however.

Yes, it was just a classic ddos by the looks. Not a dos, I don't think a single-person attack would be enough to take out Godaddys anything.

Teddy, I know GoDaddy and was part of a website that relies on it - They contacted GoDaddy and clearly stated that its security system has been breached.

The email I got as soon as it happened stated technical issues, I also contacted customer support shortly after my services should have been resumed but hadn't fully, and they again stated internal technical issues.

Besides, this is still the first issue I've ever had with GoDaddy. Not sure what country you are from, but not telling your clients about a security risk to their personal information is a serious crime in the United States. They can not lie, and given GoDaddys large market earnings, I doubt they'd risk everything over something so simple.

Looks like Anon may actually be behind this attack, just watch this vid and seems to explain anons true motivate or reason to back the of the DDOS because Go Daddy supported SOPA
Anonymous Message: GoDaddy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkCNW6ASjR4#)

SO Teddy please remove your go daddy account and support the 99%

Godaddy wasn't hacked. It was internal issues.
Godaddy doesn't support SOPA. Never did.
SOPA doesn't exist anymore. Point closed.

Taylor, your sources are fake btw, they are not legit Anonymous sources. You are spreading false information.
It is not Javascript that does a DDOS or even single DOS attack.
You speak a lot like you actually know everything about it, but you don't fact check your sources which are obvious wannabe important skids.
