Why you guys hating on Windows 8 ? It's pretty much the same as Windows 7, it only has this Metro style "START" thingey.
Besides, my PC runs a lot faster, so does the internet, when Win 8 is installed, well, just a boot up time is a little bit pain in the ass, but waht do you expect, my computer is stuffed alright.

Takes less ram than 7?
If it does then.. :hurray:   :)
-
I installed it as well, startup times are less than 20 seconds, RAM usage is considerably lower PLUS it fixed the "mouse freeze bug" which i had in SA:MP. Framerate in IV:MP is also up to 40-50 which is awesome.

My PC boots in 4 seconds with Windows 8 :poke:

I'll be getting a copy of Windows 8 and a number of Microsoft products through my school, Such as: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012, Visual Studio Professional 2012 and 2010, and Also Visual Studio Express 2012 for Web and for Windows 8, SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer, Windows Virtual PC 2007, SQL Server 2008 Express Edition, Microsoft Expression Studio 4 Ultimate, Kinect for Windows SDK, XNA Game Studio 4, Kudo Game Lab, Small Basic, Microsoft Mathematics 4, Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio, Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition, Windows Multipoint Mouse SDK, Winodws Embedded Standard 7, Windows Embedded CE 6.0, Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011, Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition, Visual Web Developer 2008 Express, Visual C# 2008 Express Edition, Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition, and many more...
Anyway, Windows 8 runs pretty good on my other hard drive. I wouldn't recommended it to a consumer quite yet though.

Consider a bowl of delicious ice cream.
This is Windows 7.
Then consider pouring on a large amount of minced beef.
That's metro.
Sure, the beef being there doesn't entirely ruin the ice cream.. but it definitely doesn't belong there, and does kinda mess up the dish as a whole.
In addition, the extra effort required to eat around the beef (which is slowly melting into your ice cream by this point) is pretty annoying.
If the ice cream is already good, why add the beef?
-
Let me get this straight, Windows 8 is better because it lowers the frame limit in games, loads faster too? I better get that!
Oh and, Will I lost my stuff if I upgarde? and is windows 8 available for purchase? or just downloading?
-

there are options to purchase an upgrade from 7 to 8, purchase an all new downloadable version or purchase the DVD for the new version
-
Do post an actual amount
Windows 7 would use up 70-80% when running the usual software including SA:MP, TeamSpeak, Skype, a browser open, Filezilla open, Putty open.
With roughly the same software, Windows 8 uses only 46%.
-
I'll be trying it soon... if it doesn't work out... then FU Microsoft.

Look for the Release Preview :)

Had checked out the 'beta' version, seems all okay, haven't played around with W8 a huge amount yet.
Some of the social media "interactiveness" is quite cool; something that's featuring universally on all sorts of things from portable devices to desktop computers.

Had it for two months, well my trial is ending on 23 days so..
I kinda like the whole concept of it, everything is easily accessible and these lovely apps mhm...

Do you also get that via Dreamspark? https://www.dreamspark.com/ (https://www.dreamspark.com/)

Haha i know what you're saying bro, got the same :D

Why do I still use XP?
I believe they allow a direct upgrade from WinXP to Win8. :)
Waiting for my drivers to be up for Windows 8, then will consider upgrading. Or will the windows 7 drivers work for Windows 8 as well?
On both my upgraded and clean install systems, I haven't seen any issues at all, and some of the drivers are Windows 7 ones. For the most part, the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant built into the downloadable version of Windows 8 which runs before purchasing it is very kind in telling you what is and isn't compatible, and how to deal with it. If it's not, they link you to an updated version that is. If one isn't available, it asks you to uninstall it, which Windows 8 was kind enough to remind me to reinstall it later after I upgraded my other computer.
Please note though guys: Although it is possible to install a clean copy via burning the ISO to media, which is one of the options, if you have a 64-Bit capable system and you run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant in a 32-Bit OS, you will be getting a 32-Bit-only ISO. I made this unfortunate mistake thinking the ISO would carry both versions with an option to choose on capable systems, but apparently it doesn't. If you are stuck in this odd situation like I was, you're better off ordering the disc that truly contains both. :)
-
SugarD is right, most of the Windows 7 drivers are plug and play on Windows 8. Have actually seen some games perform better under Windows 8 when it comes to framerate and stability, like GTA IV.. :hurray:
-
I used Windows 8 on an the PC of an acquaintance of mine, and it worked pretty nice. The other day, I heard someone saying that VC/SA/IV:MP screenshots couldn't be saved using it, is that a fact?

Well I actually don't know how he is going to "give" it to me, Im just curious, is it worth it? Any good new things`?
Windows 8 seems definitely worth it to me. It's faster, simpler, more secure, and ironically has had the need for very few updates lately because of it's awesome stability.
If you use Avast!, however, there is a known issue with a temporary patch available while they are working on the next program update to resolve a couple bizarre issues. If you or anyone here uses it and you run into that issue, let me know and I'll link you up to the patching info. It doesn't affect all systems, so only those few having the BSOD issue on Windows 8 will need it.
Other than that, I've been running Windows 8 Pro With Media Center Pack on an upgraded PoS laptop, and on a clean install on my awesome gaming comp...and both work better than before. :)
Just to note too, if you get Windows 8 Pro and request a key for Media Center Pack from Microsoft's website before January, you can get the Media Center Pack add-on for free. Otherwise it's $39.99 USD IIRC. If you try to obtain it anywhere else, or after the offer ends, then you must pay for it.
-
I'm anti Windows, so...
I hated Vista, I hated 7 less.. Won't think 8 will do much better.

Vista was my favorite. Idk why everyone moaned about problems. I never ran into them and I had it installed on every system I owned besides my PowerPC Mac, (obviously  ).
-
I've got Vista to right now, I love it on this computer but on my other one.. Different story.. As long you got +3 GB Ram, it's fine.
Less ? Ur screwed. But I never liked Windows because I grew up with a Mac (my dad prefered Macs).

Can i play new games on Windows 8?
You should be able to, but it's better to research: 1) if the makers advertise it as compatible, or 2) if online communities and members say they have got it to work. For the most part, I believe it's as compatible as Windows 7.
-
Okay,thanks for the info.. :)

Okay,thanks for the info.. :)
Any time mate.

Going with Janek on this one, I haven't found anything that is compatible with Windows 7 that isn't with Windows 8 yet. In fact, the only programs that I could never get working in Windows 7 itself were fully-DOS-based ones, like Wolfenstein 3D, but that is because of a Vista+ change, and DOSBox resolves that easily. Everything appears to work well on Windows 8 for me too. :)
-
Big problems I had were old church programmes, from floppy disk, that hate 64bit Windows. :(

Gonna install it tomorow, Pro 8.

Make sure you get your free Media Center Pack immediately after installing it so you get it free. Then follow the steps to add it. It does require a valid email address, though:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/feature-packs (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/feature-packs)
Note: You may need to change the "en-US" part in the URL to match the version of the site your country uses.

Media Center has always been able to do that if you have a TV Tuner card installed, but I mean if you want those extras. If you wait until after the deadline, or get it from anywhere else, then it costs $39.99 USD or so.

I'm not sure if the tile colors themselves can be changed or not, but I know the background color in the Start Menu can.

Yes, uninstall is safe. And in case you like it, it's only $5 and half of that ($2.50) if you wait for Stardock to send you e-mail at the end of your 30 day trial!

I didn't read the entire topic, so I'm sorry if I repeat someone else's words, but Windows 8 is indeed a good OS. Seeing all those negative reviews, people hating on it, I really wonder why? The metro interface is great, I can organize my software well, everything else is just improved 'tweaked' windows 7. Better windows explorer and other small tweaks. My comp runs around the same as win7, but the boot time is much shorter. I really recommend trying Win8 out!
-
Windows 8 to me is a big wink to the mobile platforms OS's. In terms of looks, it does look fancy but I have serious doubts about the workflow. To me personally, it doesn't feel any good when it comes to fast working procedures. Windows 7 remains a real OS, Windows 8 is rather an impression that is aimed on non-professional consumers that spend most of their day on Facebook.

I felt that way at first too because of the way it's presented, however the only real difference I notice visually which stands out is the Start Menu, which can still be changed back to the classic one. Other than that, the changes I've seen seem to actually be more helpful than anything else, and Windows 8 is much more stable and faster than Windows 7 at this point, which is ironic because it has had very few updates released so far.

Exactly, once you get the old start menu it feels like a real OS again, but with the speed and stability of Windows 8, which is really great to be honest. Using it for a month now and still having startup times of 20 seconds from cold boot, which is really nice.

Mine has slowed down a bit because I've installed a ton of junkware that I can't live without, but overall the OS is still incredibly faster than Windows 7 ever was for me.
