Title: When issued a forum warning...
Post by: Antonio. on November 02, 2012, 12:34:28 am
When a member on the forums receives a forum warning, it should state who gave him/her the warning and or the watch level. You might want to discuss it with the person who issued it, and not knowing who did doesn't quite help. This way you don't have to PM every moderator...

The reason it doesn't is to specifically prevent them from contacting the moderator out of anger and flame them. If you are unsure of your punishment, you should send an email to [email protected], or contact a forum administrator regarding the issue. Contacting a moderator is only for the reason of pointless arguing over the punishment, which resolves nothing and angers you both more.

If the admin/mod gets flamed, he can deal with him further?

Owners, HQ and forum administrators can see who warned you.
As for why, if the person warning you used the warning PM you should know.

Why invite them to when it's almost guaranteed it will happen? The point of warnings is to teach the user to not break the rules without removing them from the forum altogether. It's not meant to just piss someone off. That is human reaction, not a forum feature.

With this logic, no punishments should be shown to players in game either, as is currently the case with most Argonath servers as far as I am aware.

1. I actually agree.
2. Implying "with this logic" does not change the facts. It was designed this way on purpose by the SMF developers. If you don't agree with it, tell them. Argonath RPG didn't make the forum software. We just use it.

Sometimes in the past when I've been warned, I had no idea for what post or why.

That is technically the responsibility of the moderator then to send the message via the warn panel. In that case, you could still contact an admin asking about it.

Well, uh, it only takes all of about 5 seconds to add your name to the message.

Sometimes in the past when I've been warned, I had no idea for what post or why.

{MESSAGE} Should be added to all message(s) (templates) to prevent this. (This gives a link to the offending post)

Also, seems some people think that the "Reason for warning" is displayed to the user; it isn't, this is only shown to other forum admins.

That takes too long and is really useless. If the player does the flame, he will just get punished further...

I've received many message from "Argonath RPG Forum". None of them state who had given me the warning...

You guys are missing the point...

Contacting a moderator is only for the reason of pointless arguing over the punishment, which resolves nothing and angers you both more.

So how are we supposed to know if it was a mistake or not? How are we supposed to know why we got warned if the post is removed? Will got send us a message from the sky?

Also, how does the warning level decrease now? I went from 15% to 13%. I believe before it was 5% decrease each day.

1. I told you. Contact a forum admin or use the email service. Chances are it's not a mistake as most punishments are usually forum post-related.
2. I'm not sure what the settings are as only those with access to the admin panel can tell, but the default setting was 5% a day, yes.

I was recently warned for flaming or something, but I had no idea what that was in reference to. Plus, I had no idea who issued the warning and so I couldn't find out why I was warned.

That takes too long and just puts more work for both admins and players. Why are you always trying to be different and make things complicated? We already have one JDC...

I'm sorry to say that it takes too long, but that is the way the system was designed. Giving players a way to attack those who warned them is not a good idea, pure and simple. I am not making things complicated...that's exactly how things have always been...

As for you questioning your warns, I would suggest you be careful of what you say next time. Insulting both JDC and myself with your comment is likely the same reason why you keep getting punished.

Being able to inform the player who gave the warning is not impossible, as you're making it seem. And since it hasn't always been, you can see I am not the only one annoyed it by it.

Insulting? If you are going to try to give out "complex ideas" all the time, and completely isolate yourself from the idea of most players, expect some criticism. I am sure you guys are old enough not to feel offended with everyone who doesn't agree with you.

:ps: Another warning but I don't know who gave me it...

Like I said before, use the email or ask a forum admin. It's not that hard. You might even get an explanation as to why you received it then.

Just because you can argue without flaming etc doesn't mean others can.

Topic locked until the forum admins/Server Owners wish to review this since people can't stop trying to create arguments.
