Hi everyone,
A thought popped into my mind the other day.. If the the old scripts that goes all the way back to RS2.0 still exist, could this not be implented in a 3rd party server as a try-out for some days?
I am aware of the fact that things won't be 100% identical if a server was to be started now, but it could still be an incredible journey back in time, wouldn't it?
Please note, this is not something I write to offend the progress or the current state of the server. But for those of us who were around few years ago, would most likely be jumping up and down on the thought of this.
So, a whole new server based on the RS2 scripts where everyone starts from scratch to have fun in a journey through memory lane. Moreover, this is only if the old scripts still exist.
Please, if this topic is to be remained open; keep the discussion on a civilised basis.
Thoughts?

I do like this idea, however one major problem is that they would need to be modified from their original form to run on the newer version of SA:MP. If it's possible, though, I'd love to see it too.

I have been playing since February 2011.At that time I did not even know what script was.But as I can imagine the new scripts are never 'new'.
They rely on previous versions and the basis is the same. What would people win using older scripts? Addicions like to everyone, don't they?

Sometimes they are redone though, such as SA:MP RS5 being made from scratch. Either way tho, the differences in the versions are generally pretty large, hence the version changes. I think he personally just wants to see what things were like back in the day. :)

Trust me, I know how things were. As a matter of fact, I actually joined Argo just a week after its debut on SA:MP ;)
I miss it. Why? In one word; quality.

Quality? Are you high? RS2 was barely playable.
Want to go back to SA-MP 0.1b, too?

The crashes every 5 minutes were the best.

I would love to see some sort of legacy server! Actually talked about it with someone recently. Refurbishing the old scripts shouldn't be too hard, and we could name it: Argonath Classic

You join the server in RS2 and you only have 30 forum posts and only registered a forum account this year? What? :trust:

299 posts since march 07.. Happens to more people as u see..
Altho the idea is nice its not or hard to realise, samp version changes etc.
Also, i once installed windows 98 on an old pc of mine again for nostalgic and old school reasons... Only to find out how much it sucked and sucks compared to current versions.
Same would happen here, in te time you wouldnt be crashing you would see how much the server improved and leave the old school one never te join it again.

I didn't join the server in RS2. I joined the server in RS1 ;)
MrMe, a classic server like RS2 today would be... wait for it.... legendary!
Being independant of scripts like we were back in the old days made both the server and ourselves unique in our own ways unlike today where we are drunk in scripts that are, in the big picture; unnecessary.

Right man, and I joined the server before it was ever created.

Nice lie.

Nice lie.
That CM Drunk is the best in the world is a lie too, he is just another wannabe. You may think whatever you want, who cares.
So take your useless comments and throw them in the garbage can, because that's what they are; a piece of junk.

I see no reason to get all offensive about a simple comment.

Agreed. Quit with the provocative comments. Is it really necessary? You don't know for sure when he joined, so why not just get back to discussing the idea instead?
Giving this some thought, I think it'd be a great idea to have legacy Argo servers. The only problem is how the administrative part would be handled if it's a separate server from the main/current one.

I don't like this idea. As someone already mentioned, people would go on it for five minutes, realise it's hardly different to today's server, get annoyed by all of the crashes and bugs, and leave.
You want to take a trip down memory lane? Only way to do that is with screenshots, because it is the community, not server scripts, that have changed.

RS4 is lightyears ahead of RS2, the only notable things about RS2 were mole missions and the ability to /confess.

You wouldn't get annoyed by bugs/crashes, since that would be solved because of the newer client/server versions we all have today.
