Hi,i want to know that which processors are good for gaming?kmy brother advised me to buy amd but i am bit frustrated. Please tell me core i3 i5 i7 are faster than amd?
-
AMD has heating problem. Intel Core I7 FTW.
-
I just want a computer that can run gta 4 on high setting. Some people say that amd consumes more power and its performance is less than i5 even its 4 cores or 6cores.Please help me!
-
With the latest technology, i would say i5 intel. I heard the new ones are cheaper than i7 and perform better as well. Question is tho, which i5?
-
I would recommend Intel Core i5 or i7
-
You get more for your money with AMD, but then again, you get more quality with Intel, and as others have already mentioned, AMD tend to have cooling issues.
-
If your aim is playing GTA IV then go for i5. The processor is quite important for gaming but not fundamental.
What graphics card do you have?
-
Intel.
-
I love my AMD FX6100 - not had a single issue with it.

You mean that amd is like crap.ok :D

Well, the memory itself doesn't count that much.
There are 1gb cards that cost 40€ and some that cost 500€ :P

^ this is one of the biggest misunderstanding of all time about AMD processor i have been using AMD Athlon 7850 from pas few years and running my PC with heavy games and other high processing stuff related rendering tracks for music related purpose.. And i keep my PC shutdown only for around 5-6 hrs max but not experienced any heating issue so far im still on default stock cooling..
About the best CPU is the one which fits in your budget and gives you more than enough performance what you target for.. In my case AMD got the vote low on cost and similar power CPU in intel were way to costly, I managed to get other stuff for PC by saving and going for AMD.
Again i would say best go for what fits in your budget and the power you expecting from the processor.
-
I'm running on AMD, and have never had a problem. Computer's always in use, rendering videos, and it's never turned off. No issues whatever.

French prefer Intel somehow :O.

Running at stock?

Intel, although not as cheap as AMD, Intel still serves you better with quality and cooling.
AMD is just for cheap and 'fast' rigs but not 'quality' rigs ;).
For example;
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Core-i7-3770K-vs-AMD-FX-8150-and-Core-i7-2600K-CPU-Review/1537/4 (http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Core-i7-3770K-vs-AMD-FX-8150-and-Core-i7-2600K-CPU-Review/1537/4)
I only had an AMD once, which must been Athlon64 3000+ if I recall right, other than that, I was always happy with my Intel processors (Celerons, Pentium 4, Pentium Dual Core, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, i5, i7) and currently once again a core 2 duo.
-
intel representing
-
AMD is cheaper and it's overall good enough for the majority of the games but if you have a nice budget to spend then go for Intel i5 and even better if you have the money, go for an i7. About the GPU, if you thinking of playing GTA IV buy something that will work on other recent games or the upcoming games so you don't have to upgrade your computer every single year.
-
I have benn using intel since i bought my new computer. And now it looks like i am stepping in kinda dark room.Even on blohs, people choose intel.
-
Indeed, people chose Intel because it offers the most performance and quality, but it's a bit more expensive. But if you got the funds and want a good computer able to run the latest games at ease, go with Intel.

The truth is that it is simply about your personal preference. Both sides have their advantages and disadvantages, and the arguments about them could go back and forth forever given the number of technologies and products both have produced over the years. The only real answer to this topic's title is this: It's whichever you prefer more.

I mean the whole computer.

-
I mean the whole computer.
Ok,core i5 sandy bridge good for playin gta4 without lags?
Yup. I'm not very informed right now but it should. The most important part is the graphics card though. Don't forget RAM.
-
$700 is a decent amount for a decent system, however, be very careful when purchasing it. Often enough, most stores will hide certain technical specs from you in order to make a system seem like an amazing setup for the price...but little do you know that the specs they show you actually mean nothing on their own, and the ones they are hiding are the reasons behind your system getting bogged down.
Take for example my crappy laptop I bought last year. 3GB of RAM, 300GB HDD, AMD Dual-Core Processor, AMD "high performance" Graphics Card. Now I know these specs aren't great in themselves, but imagine if they were higher for the sake of the argument, seeing how I got the laptop for only $300.
Now, getting that deal, you look at the CPU. Oh, dual-core! It must be fast, right? Nope. Turns out the speed and very low cache on this thing make it a pile of turds waiting to be thrown into a fire.
Now what about that RAM? 3GB is alright still these days, even on a bad system. It must be fast then, right? Wrong. The amount of RAM has nothing to do with the computer's speed at all. The amount just controls the storage of it. Yes, more RAM is better than less because more storage allows your computer to store more for processing next, however the speed limits are all down to your CPU and HDD. My RAM happened to also be a very slow kind, so the amount in terms of speed was useless to me.
Oh, 300GB HDD! Plenty of storage room! But is it fast enough not slow down my computer? This one can go both ways. Most of the time, they won't tell you the speeds of the hard drive. The rare exception to this rule is sometimes they will for laptops in the better stores that care more about customers than cash. Slow hard drives can still slow down your system, and as a result, your computer may get stuck waiting on reading/writing things to and from the HDD.
As for the graphics card, brand means everything, right? Wrong. Most graphics cards these days go without saying that brand, just like with anything else, doesn't really make a difference in the performance. Really the only exception to this is the dreaded "Intel Integrated Graphics", or any other "integrated graphics" for that matter. The reason you should avoid this is because 99% of the time they just use the CPU for processing the video straight on the motherboard. The odd exception to this is they may add a "GPU", or "Graphics Processing Unit", to the motherboard. Some players may still see good performance out of these designs, but overall they are a bad idea because they lead to heat issues, cross-processing in the CPU which takes up it's power, and overall other complications that could be easily avoided with just getting a decent graphics card which can be upgraded over time.
Overall, your own personal research and gained knowledge is your best bet at getting a decent system for the amount you wish to spend. It is possible to get a nice one at that price, depending on where you live and shop...however it will be a bit difficult as the very high end systems usually cost a few hundred or more than the amount you have saved, (assuming those are U.S. Dollars).

I have an Intel i5 its good but... on heavy games overheats.

Keep in mind that there are different variations of it too.
As with most modern-day processors that are pretty powerful, overheating and excessive power usage are an all-too-common issue. That's why I personally prefer to use liquid cooling systems with my gaming computers, rather than the traditional fan method, since liquid carries heat much better than air does.
-

What temperatures does it reach?
My i7 2600 reaches 85c when loaded at 100% and even 92c if using some particular applications.. nothing you can get with normal stuff :D

My Quad Core reaches 90 degrees F. on average with liquid cooling because I always have a million things open at once that overload the computer.
-
I've been using AMD for a few years now, I've had 2 issues with it. But that was basicly when I was about to '' overkill '' my PC, since I kept playing heavy games on maxed graphics. Which made it overheat and randomly shut down. But apart from that. I haven't experienced anything big, just that it can become a bit slow sometimes, but it doesn't affect gameplay way too much. Though, I prefer Intel, cause it's better and you can get a pretty good one for a cheaper price.
-
Intel is the best when it comes to processors xD
However, if you want something cheap/economical, go for AMD.
P.S. The latest 3rd gen Intel processors heat up a lot, but again, they are made to take the heat like NVIDIA kepler. :devroll:

Just remember that those specs you have posted do not list all of the details of those parts, so they might not be as good as they say. Make sure you research it before you buy it. :)

90c and shuts down.

Depends on the temperature at which you set your BIOS to shut down the PC once reached.

i5 is quad core.

Just remember that you need an Intel motherboard if your'e going with an Intel processor. Intel parts are expensive as hell, and I personally think that you can get AMD parts that are nearly on par with Intel for so much less...

Most of the Mobo got a security trigger at 100 degrees celcius, it just goes off. No way you get that off.

Sorry for being late in the discussion, but this looks like a load of crap. You list contains so little detail that we can't make out ANYTHING out of it.
If this is a pre-built computer, please link the shop page. You don't want to buy a pre-built one anyways. They usually cost $100-200 more than when you build it yourself (or have the shop build it, ~$50 usually).
You will likely want a Intel i5 2500K, a good processor for gaming. i7 is not worth it if you don't edit videos professionally.
On graphics, I like Nvidia more, as I have had problems with AMD. 660 Ti is a good choice, but might be a bit pricey. You want more than 2gb memory on your GPU.

Nothing beats the core i5 and beyond, and you should be aiming for that if you're buying a brand new computer, unless you're on a tight budget - in that case, AMD may be better.
-
A specific CPU is not better just because of the specific model. There are smaller details regarding it's specs which make it better or worse.

I have a personal hatred towards Dell because of many, many horrible past experiences with them, and the information regarding that laptop's video card and wireless compatibility isn't very specific, but other than that it appears to be pretty decent.
-
I've watched AMD have heating issues.
Intel i3 / i5 / i7 are more than capable for GTA:IV.
I use this processor (http://www.ebuyer.com/264713-intel-pentium-g620-2-6ghz-socket-1155-3mb-l3-cache-retail-boxed-processor-bx80623g620) which runs just as fast as the i3.

Wrong. Each CPU is different. Models can even have differing specific specs in them which make one sub-model better than another. Brand has nothing to do with it.

It's entirely your decision. It's just a personal experience I've had. Not everyone will have the same experiences as others. :)

But i have read disadvantages of dell laptops. And most peole say its like crap.
Anyway, can you get me a laptop name with following specs
Core i7/i5
Ram 8gb ddr3
Gpu nvidia geforce 520m or higher
Hdd 350gb or 500gb(a nice one)
Cpu speed 2.5 or 2.8ghz
Processor turbo 2.10 or 3.10
Must be the company of lenovo, acer,hp.
I will qppreciate your work.

Getting a gaming laptop when for the same price you could buy two gaming desktop rigs?
As for the original question, go for Intel. While it may seem that you get more "cores" for "less money" with AMD, don't be fooled. With laptop
processors it's even worse, when Intel's 2-core CPU beats AMD's 6-core CPU in both performance and cost. As for desktop processors, see
the bottom link I gave and compare different processors you can find in the shops and decide for yourself what is good and what is not.

Exactly :P
Besides playing many hours such a heavy game on a laptop will kill it soon enough :D

I have an Intel i5 2500k Overclocked to 4.5 Ghz and 2 6850's in crossfire slightly overclocked.
AMD+INTEL Ftw!
(CPU Wise errm im sure most people here have answered that but although Intel is more expensive they are better quality.)
-
Never ever buy a laptop for gaming purposes. It's a waste of cash since GPUs in laptop are MUCH weaker than normal ones.
People saying you want more than 2gb memory on your GPU - that's a lie. 2gb is enough to run 2560x1600 resolution just fine. 1gb is enough (especially if you have shit monitor), 2gb is making it sure (recommended on 1920x1080 and higher resolutions).
Intel is far better than AMD let it be video editing or gaming purposes. As for gaming video card, I'd suggest to look for nvidia, but that's due to my personal experience with AMD's video cards.
-
Exactly :P
Besides playing many hours such a heavy game on a laptop will kill it soon enough :D
Exactly, Laptops love to overheat and kill themselves i have 4 in my wardrobe that have each overheated and died. Where as 2 desktops that are left on 24/7 and still running today.
-
intel ofc
-
Wrong. Each CPU is different. Models can even have differing specific specs in them which make one sub-model better than another. Brand has nothing to do with it.
Of course not I explicitly said TOP Intel CPUs, the core i5 and i7 models... Roughly speaking they're just better in every regard. AMD is matching them with the new FX-8xxx processors but they're a very very new model and for the past years nothing got past them.
-
I just got myself a new gaming laptop with Intel Core i7, runs everything smooth as hell!
