Hi guys,
I have a problem when it comes to launching GTA IV, I just bought it, installed it correctly, but when I try to launch it, I see a small black box appear for like 2 sec, then it's gone and nothing happends. Anyone have an answer on this? Cause I would like to be able to play it!
Cheers,
Ernst

What Windows do you use?
-
Oh I forgot to mention that! I have Windows 8.

The OS doesn't have a thing to do with that issue, it's a known problem with the 1.0.0.0 game version.
Can't remember right away what the fix was, but there are plenty of threads to be found from Google.
You could start by updating your game with the 1.0.7.0 patch and Googlin' (https://www.google.fi/#hl=fi&safe=off&tbo=d&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=gta+iv+won%27t+launch&oq=gta+iv+won%27t+launch&gs_l=hp.3..0l2j0i8i30l2.857.3138.0.3310.19.10.0.8.8.0.96.490.10.10.0...0.0...1c.1.zmPvHMGVy4s&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.1355534169,d.bGE&fp=a05f89f3e570ad25&bpcl=40096503&biw=1920&bih=955)

I remember having the same problem with pirated one, but never had it ever since I got my legit copy. You sure its a legit one right? :P Any try what Icy suggested.
-
Yes is a legit one, bought from a local gamestore! I re-installed it and updated it so now it works! But now I have another issue, I can't change the size of the screen and the graphics and stuff, I'm getting a warningmessage. o.O
Help!
-
Try running it as an admin, right click > 'Run as Administrator' ;)

Gratz! and try what Mikal said. :p
I have the complete edition, which never gave me any problems. Other than insert disc each time you want to play thing -.-

Ye I already tried that, doesn't make a different, same message when I try to change the graphic;
"Warning: Your graphics settings are near, or exceed, the suggested
resource limits for your system. It is recommended that you reduce
your graphic settings in order to run the game optimally."
I don't really get it, I can't play the game cause my laptop has a 17,3" screen? And it's a brand new gaming-laptop so it can handle
the game, it handles heavier games.. :trust:

If you look at the values, you should see that you do not have enough graphics memory to run the minimum settings. :lol:
There is a way however to bypass this error as GTA IV may not always register all the available memory on laptops, again Googlin' will help ya out.

Guys I solved it!
I managed to google a solution so if anyone else have this problem, just;
Computer>OS(C:)>Program(x86)>Rockstar Games>Grand Theft Auto IV
And then I made a new .txt file inside the GTA map and named it commandline and typed in some commands to change the settings and now it works!

This is why I didn't bother buying a new GTA IV disk when I lost mine, I played IV Argonath 2 times when it was first created, after then it would never load and IV constantly gave me shitloads of errors and problems, it seems GTA IV:MP is nowhere near as simple as SA:MP is to run/install, thats if it hasnt all changed by now, but back when I first used it, problems problems problems, thats why I CBA with IV:MP, no matter how much I want to. :D
Glad you solved your problem Ernst. ;)
