Title: MAYOR: Overview, Online system, Notification system and friends.
Post by: ClazzyJogel on January 13, 2013, 09:20:33 pm
Overview
When you enter someones forum profile, you will see a description that can be maximum of 100 words, where you can give a short biography or share links to your social network, whatever you wanna share basicly, and everyone entering your profile will see it.

Online system
Just like in the WS forum, you can see if someone is online or not by seing hes profile where he posts. I know you can already but then you have to click into the guys profile, its easier to just see it when you see the profile.

Notification system
Whenever someone qoute your post and replies to you, you will get a notification as easy as you would get a notification for getting a PM.

Friend system
You can add, manage and delete friends, this makes it alot easier to keep control of your friends and see their updates (kinda facebook, but a cool feature why not?)

They use a different forum software which has those features built in. As for the friends list, that is already possible through the "Buddy List" system in SMF.

Hm, after a half year in this community I still didnt know the buddy and online system here, wierd.

I guess the only remaining idea is the notification system?

Notifications of posts you can switch on in your profile.
That leaves a notification of PM when you are logging on, however with my sometimes 20PM's a day I  just hate getting constant popups... :devroll:
If I find a system that can be turned off individually I will se if it can be entereed.

Haha. ^^

One of your suggestions, about the friend's system... though this is relying upon what SMF already offers, a renewed buddy system might be handy for those that use the forums as more of a social platform. For a time we used to have chat functionalities and things like the SMF Bay take some steps towards providing more interaction. Largely, I don't think mixing a forums such as this one which is predominantly for discussions, with wide social networking features would be so good as it may stray far from its original purpose.

Argonath's different areas provide loads of opportunities, though, and hopefully these will continue to expand and will have more features that are to everyone's tastes.
