Title: Windows Media Player & .avi files - crashing at startup?
Post by: Hidduh on February 12, 2013, 04:29:26 pm
I'm trying to watch a movie on my harddrive with WMP, but upon launching, it crashes and freezes immediately.
This seems to happen to every .avi file on my harddrive, everything else (i.e .mp3's) is working fine. I have tried using Microsoft Fix It, but that didn't seem to do the job.

Running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, and using the latest version of WMP.

:help:

but WMP is bad. VLC or superior Combined Comunity Codec Pack are greater alternatives

If you insist, perhaps you could try reinstalling it.

Managed to fix it by installing a codec pack. In case somebody wonders, it's available for download at http://www.windows7codecs.com/ (http://www.windows7codecs.com/)

Thanks everyone :D
