The number of Syrian refugees who have fled the conflict has reached a million, the UN has said.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees said the number of people seeking haven in neighbouring countries had jumped since the beginning of the year.
Half of the refugees were children, the UN said, most of them under 11 and often traumatised by their experiences.
The largest numbers of refugees were seeking shelter in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt.
Fergal Keane reports from refugee camps in Jordan.

This is the unfortunate truth of humanity. The constant seek of power and positions, in order to gain as much as possible, as fast as possible. The opposition of Bashar Al-Assad is an Islamist group, which will cause more tragedies, and no stability in the country. Al-Assad is neither a good alternative.
I am afraid this conflict will end up with one of the superpowers, USA or France, most possible, will do as they did in Iraq, and install a temporarily government, to calm down the situation. This did not work in Iraq, and neither will it work in Syria.
The only thing we as ordinary citizens can do, is to give money to humanitarian aid organizations, and ally us with the medical services. They are neutral, and no matter of the conflict, they aid the innocent civilians. So please, I recommend you all to donate money to the struggeling refugees in Turkey, Jordan, Iraq and the other neighbour states, in order to secure them from more tragedy. I've done it myself, and I am willing to donate more when I can.
