Title: Rockstars 5 (RS5) Testing Server
Post by: Teddy on April 01, 2013, 01:29:07 am
Due to the overload in private messages, I will settle this publicly.

Question: Can I request to be a beta tester?
Answer: No. We will find suitable and trustworthy candidates for beta test. DO NOT PM A SCRIPTER asking to be a tester.

Question: Who are beta testers, I see a bunch of people in the server?
Answer: Let us handle who has access and who does not. We know who is using the server and if any unauthorized does, we will handle it.

Question: Why can't I be a beta tester?
Answer: Because you weren't invited. End of story.

Question: Can you give opinions on the progress?
Answer: http://rs5.argonathrpg.com (http://rs5.argonathrpg.com)

Question: Can you tell us when we might be invited?
Answer: When and IF we decide to invite you. Not sooner, not later.

Question: I hear blah blah blah blah about RS5
Answer: Report who told you, and when via Skype. Hiding someone leaking will consider you an accomplice. Only information released by the scripting team should be consider accurate at this time. Nobody else should be speaking of, sharing information or in anyway detailing the RS5 progress, server features or any other information regarding the script.

Question: Does all the new people mean release soon?
Answer: It means we have a lot of new testers. Nothing official in relation to release date.

Thank you and have a nice day.
Please stop flooding our PM.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Why don't we all enjoy and appreciate the scripts at hand; the scripts that allow us to have fun every day!

People act like they need RS5 to survive the apocalypse, but that's just retarded. It's being worked on, and from where I stand, I dare to say that it is being worked on a lot. The scripters put a lot of time and effort into making the future perhaps even more fun. So instead of asking when it's going to be released, why it has not been released yet and if there has been any progress, take that time and spend it in a better way. Take your time to PM a scripter for once, to thank him for what he has done so far, instead of bugging them with questions that will be left unanswered anyway.

Just because you don't see any results yet, doesn't mean that they don't try their utter best to put together something great. And just because RS5 is still in progress, doesn't mean that the current scripts are incompetent. Certainly, and I think we all agree on that, it has flaws. But hey, the server has over a 100 players every day so it can't be that bad, can it?

And while you take your time to appreciate what the current scripting team is doing, also take time to appreciate those who have worked their balls off in the past; to create RS4.1. It's also a great script, and as with any script, a lot of time and effort (and sacrifices!) have been put into it. And just because we take it for granted that these scripts are run on the server every day, doesn't mean it's right to forget about those who made them, albeit a while ago.

Why? Well, if you are having a shit day or are tired when you come home from school or work, you launch GTA and start playing with mates. Do you like it? Sure you do, or else you wouldn't. And where you spend your free time playing a game, they're spending (a portion) of theirs to make the game. They come home and then spend a couple of hours staring at scripts, looking for that one single line containing the error, rendering the complete script useless.
And then, when they finally join the game, they keep being bugged by people asking questions that they've been asked a dozen times. Not to mention those who are jealous or simply hold a grudge against them.

So show them support and show them what they do it for.

Am I the only one who doesn't want to be a BETA tester?

I mean, why would I want to be a BETA tester of something which may have bugs and won't be as stable as full release? :p

I rather enjoy the surprises hidden in full release when its completed. :D

Good luck with the RS5, Many talk about it. Let's play as it like years now (RS4) and let the testers and developers work and when you won't wait for it it will come up. I think provoking about RS5 and saying that it will never come it's useless as our comments won't choose if RS5 will come faster. Enjoy what you have now in Argonath, Good luck developers, scripters and testes. Good luck also with the beta. People, let's stop provoking comments about RS5.

Friendly,
Tom_Evans

Actually, no, I don't have any interest in becoming a beta tester. I've been there when the IV:MP scripts were being tested, and as awesome as it sounds you get access to the scripts as one of the first players on Argonath, it's a lot of doing the same thing over and over again. And then do it in a slightly diffirent way, over and over again.

Know that feel. I was there when the latest version of IV:MP was released and most scripts weren't even working. :/

Okay then, /bizzinfo is bugged it needs ID, but /bizzinfo ID is only used from admins and somehow players can use it for their own ID only.

Yeah, if it's a really basic syntax error, but if the script compiles and the part of script that's bugging is huge, it's a completely different story.

For example, we're currently trying to solve a bug that's only ever been mentioned once on the SA:MP forums... Basically, when someone joins, there's a small chance that a random player will completely freeze in a very weird way: their screen doesn't freeze, but keyboard and mouse input is ignored, so the only way to quit is ctrl+alt+del -> task manager

This is in no way related to RS5...

This is why you should add comment lines to everything so you can easily see whats wrong.  Basic coding practices you should learn in school should stick with you, sometimes the most basic things i learned in school are the most useful things.
