SACRAMENTO, Calif. â€â€ÂAn earthquake has struck Northern California's Plumas County with a preliminary magnitude of 5.7.
Rafael Abreau, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey's National Earthquake Center, said the temblor struck at 8:47 p.m. and was centered six miles west northwest of Greenville, and 26 miles southwest of Susanville.
Abreu said there have been no reports of damage in early field reports.
The quake was also felt in downtown Sacramento, about 145 miles south of the epicenter. KCRA 3 studios felt the quake at 8:48 p.m.
There have been eight aftershocks ranging from 2.6-to-3.5-magnitude.
Abreu said the shaking measured by the quake could have inflicted light damage of structures.
Chief meteorologist Mark Finan said he hadn't felt one like this in awhile. The newsroom floor started swaying and he jumped into action.
There's no word on any possible injuries.
A rally is being held downtown right now to celebrate the Sacramento Kings staying in town.
KCRA 3 reporter Mallory Hoff said there was much confusion as the earthquake rattled the ground, considering the loud music and packed atmosphere.

The news is milking the hell out of this. Tons of people in my local area are claiming to the news that they felt the earthquake and it shook their walls the exact moment this news station claims to have felt it in their own studio. My mom lives in North Sacramento. I live in South Sacramento. Neither of us felt anything. My own cat slept on my bed through it apparently, because she didn't even wake up, and cats are supposed to feel even smaller earthquakes than what humans can detect. Some girl on the news is claiming that she felt it in the area of my mom, and also claims she thought a car hit her house.
Since that time, two "large" aftershocks were supposedly felt. The news is reporting that people are experiencing a "chaotic situation", yet no injuries or damage is reported. Emergency services are on standby, but have received a total of 0 calls resulting from this incident.
Edit: 13 aftershocks reported now. Still nothing felt. People all around me, including where I live, are making claims to the news that they felt it. The certificates hanging from my wall by tacks haven't even moved, and those things move when people slam doors in my apartment complex...

It's a common fact that some news reporters do exaggerate with their claims, all to give more sensation to the readers

Oh, believe me, they were going way too far with this one. One station, CBS13, was even doing a "breaking news" portion 2 hours after the incident happened, interviewing random, unrelated people, and interrupting normal programming just to get more late-night ratings.

That indeed is a step too far, but I believe that one fact remains; More viewers = More money. Perhaps this was the M.O. behind this action.

Always is, unfortunately. The news doesn't report it unless they know people will watch...

There is only one news-program on my local network that actually sends news such as the London soldier being cut into bits, while all others look at a baby lamb being circumcised. somehow the lamb's more in favor looking at statistics on the internet...

It's all about ratings to those sick people, sadly.

8.2 magnitude earthquake in Moscow this morning; barely felt anything.
-
You will feel a 5.7, but a 3.5 is not worse as a truck passing your house.
If you want to see when you need to 'feel' something use this link:

Could have been a result of an aftershock from the one here last night. Hopefully no one was hurt.

We had a minor quake in the UK like 8 years ago, my streets roads still bare the scars, thanks for spending all that money on funding lazy ass dole bums and immigrants when you could have been repairing our roads!
