Title: Scripters Wanted! (IV:MP / Squirrel)
Post by: Tai on May 28, 2013, 03:02:55 am
Hello again!
As you noticed the development progress did slow down rapidly, not only because of the horrible IV:MP releases. We are also missing a big part of our scripting team who recently moved to SA:MP. Therefore we are looking for members for our scripting team. As always we require a accurate knowledge of the Squirrel-Scripting-Language and a loyal heart to the Argonath RPG community.

Of course we need active people as some of us are currently busy due to real life, therefore you should bring enough time and patience to us!

In case you are interested please send me a private message on forums with some examples of your work, those might be in Squirrel! Please make sure that you are not a part of any other community like this as scripter or administrator so we can trust you!

Kind regards,
Frodo - IV:MP Main Developer

I spent 2 years of my life scripting in Squirrel to fine-tune my GM for IV:MP, only for the team to go open-source and allow a multitude of young programmer-wannabe's to come in and RUIN the entire mod, each trying to *force* their personal methods and ideology into the code, ending in a complete catastrophe. Very little of Jenksta's original code remains.  It has all been either tampered with or totally re-written. Instead of building on and fine-tuning what already existed, those inexperienced coders tore-down the code and tried to do everything the way THEY wanted it to be done.  I know one of those people personally, and helped him test several of his committed builds that became more and more unstable as he went on.  He finally threw up his hands, gave up and left the remaning mess for others to clean up.  The same thing is happening over and over again because the only people working on the coding are inexperienced youngsters who think they can develop a 3rd party mod just because they either took a C++ class in school or learned it in their spare time.  Developing a mod for a community of people with all different types of hardware and operating systems requires YEARS of experience - especially when you don't have a single speck of the game's original source code!!

The only reason RS1 and RS2 was even released was to stick a pacifier in the IV:MP community's mouth and keep them from whining.  Know this:  The ONLY hope for IV:MP is for a totally different PROFESSIONAL coding team to take over the project, which I am actually trying to arrange at this very moment.

I have connections at Full Sail college in Orlando, Florida, where Take Two Interactive(Rockstar's parent company) works with students on various game-developing projects, all for the sake of giving the students a grade and giving them experience working hands-on with an established gaming corporation.  A member of my family is engaged to be married to a woman who works in the marketing department at Take Two Interactive, and I am trying my best to talk her into suggesting that IV:MP be introduced to their list of projects to take on in their curriculum at Full Sail.  She said: "If I can convey to them that this project is a worthwhile tool and a possible investment that can be of benefit to our educational curriculum, then we might be able to release *some* source code material to be used in those applications."

Doing this is VERY difficult, since there is much politics involved in pitching an idea to a multi-million-dollar corporation, but nevertheless I haven't given up.  Anyway, I have no idea whether or not I will succeed in this endeavor, but I will keep everyone informed the instant that I get any response from my contact at Full Sail.

PS: For those of you who didn't understand all the big words - I'll make it east for you:  http://www.dictionary.com (http://www.dictionary.com).

And for anyone who wants to whine about me using a larger font and making it green - those chat features are enabled for everyone to use, so you can either disable them...  or, you can remember these words:  It's like a long bridge.......you'll eventually get over it.  :D

Happy Gaming!
