Title: Summer of '13 - Interrail
Post by: Aksel on June 10, 2013, 01:48:27 am
Hello! In a month I will travel with my girlfriend trough Europe by train. We have prepared a small plan, but we would like to take the trip as spontanious as possible. We found out our very general "West Europe down and Eastern Europe up" plan wouldn't be realistic, so we added some more details.

08.07.13 - 29.07.13
Sandefjord (Norway) - Bremen (Germany) by plane
Bremen (Germany) - Amsterdam (The Netherlands)

Amsterdam (The Netherlands) - Antwerpen (Belgium)
Antwerpen (Belgium) - Paris (France)
Paris (France) - Marseille (France)
Marseille (France) - Monaco (Monaco)
Monaco (Monaco) - Barcelona (Spain)
Barcelona (Spain) - Madrid (Spain)
Madrid (Spain) - Malaga (Spain)

Malaga (Spain) - Talgier (Morocco) by ferry
Talgier (Morocco) - Malaga (Spain)

Malaga (Spain) - Rome (Italy)

Rome (Italy) - Ljubljana (Slovenia)

Ljubljana (Slovenia) - Zagreb (Croatia)
Zagreb (Croatia) - Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) - Belgrade (Serbia)

Belgrade (Serbia) - Pristina (Kosovo)

Pristina (Kosovo) - Timisoara (Romania)

Timisoara (Romania) - Copenhagen (Denmark)
Copenhagen (Denmark) - Oslo (Norway)

This community is very international, and I believe we have many people from Europe aswell. I would like you to suggest cities or places we could visit, as we are not really a fan of "touristic places" any of us. We prefer to explore cultures and see the "real" countries.

Come with suggestions!

If you were going to Albania, I'd recommend Sarandë!

I think I've been there seven times the last five years. But only for a small time, as we take the ferry over to Hvar or Brac. :)

If you were going to Albania, I'd recommend Sarandë!

Unfortunately, there are no train tracks going into Albania. We will have to take a bus, and unfortunately we don't have time, but I would love to visit Albania aswell. Hopefully we will have time to visit Kosovo.

If you are not the fan of touristic places, Timisoara is not really the best place for you to visit, it is one of the first tourist attractions in Romania. If you want to see the real country see Bucharest.
But anyway, if you like animals you should pass by the zoo in Timisoara, they have a few brown bears(if they are still alive) along with some other species met on romanian grounds

Depending on when you will visit, we can go out for a drink both in Prishtina and Stuttgart. :D

Well, all of the west has cities like Timisoara that are touristic places(like Arad, Hunedoara, etc) Though, If you don't have time, Timisoara is fine to visit

Ah, it's a good choice. If you are going by train you will probably pass trough Orsova and Drobeta-Turnu Severin, you will be near the Danube river for 30 km, it's a pretty awesome scenery. You will also see the ,as we call it, Iron Gate 1, the biggest dam on the Danube River and one of the largest hydroelectric power stations in Europe

If you pick up  :weed: in Amsterdam be sure to understand other countries do not have the laws Holland has, better do not try taking it across the border.

Apart from the Wallen (where the women will have fun making gestures at your GF) the Zoo Artis is a good place to visit, as is the Wax Museum of Madame Tussaud's. Be careful with the mushrooms, people sometimes think they can fly as a result, hospitals find that most can not.

Doing this this summer with my boys

Plane to Amsterdam
Train to Berlin
Train to Prague
Train to Budapest
Train to Split
Train to Zagreb
Train to Budapest
Plane to London

Next day

Plane to Prishtina  :war:

I'm planning on bringing 850 for the journey. 50 euros a day.
I'm paying roughly 150 euros for my accom so that's 1000 gone already.
Will be bringing 1000 for my month holiday back home so that's an easy 2000 grand gone just like that. Summer sixteen will be MINE.

I was opting for a train to London for when I go away in the Summer (fly out from Heathrow) but a return ticket for when I go away in the Summer was more than a return flight, fuck knows how.

London airports charge higher prices for tickets (From what I experienced). I got a ticket £30 from Southend airport in Colchester to Amsterdam rather than £65 from Heathrow.

As you can see from above, I'm bouncing back to Budapest. Tickets from Zagreb and Split are £60 one way to London whereas in Buda it's £25.

When is the referendum?

It shouldn't affect me as I purchased these tickets beforehand. Shit though, that's something to potentially worry about now.

I'll pass on that. I already obtain one of the two world's most valuable passports. Besides, I don't 'exist' on the Albanian and Kosovo system IF I do something illegal  :D

Your travel plan is missing Lithuania. You really should visit, we have a lot of historical place to visit, such as the Trakai or Vilnius Castle's, the 9th Fort, a Soviet Nuclear Missile base in Plateliai and many many more. And ofcourse, beautiful landmarks, such as beaches in KlaipÄ—da, Palanga and Å ventoji, The Curonian Spit in Nida, various castle hills from the pagan times.

This summer is round 1 of my tour around europe. Next summer I will be visiting the countries I didn't this year and Lithuania is on the list, don't you worry ;)

We had to squeeze all these countries in a time frame of 2 weeks. I planned everything from plane times to accommodation to train times etc etc.
