Title: The Definition of a New Player
Post by: Kojak on August 08, 2013, 04:40:56 pm
During a recent staff meeting we discussed the matter of defining a new player for the purposes of enforcing the rule that forbids scamming of new players and it has been simultaneously raised by the community in this thread (http://www.argonathrpg.eu/index.php?topic=98547.0). We have discussed it and I will now define a new player for you.

For the purposes of the rules a new player is any player that is within fourteen days of registration; to be clear this means that on their fifteenth day they are no longer new players. The date they registered can be checked with /whenmade.

Any attempt to scam a new player, or attempt to get him to send his money or assets through deception or any method where we conclude his status as a new player has been exploited detrimentally to him for financial gain, is against the rules and will be met with an immediate server ban. Any money that has been scammed will be removed from the scammer and returned to the new player. Depending on the severity of the offence, we may choose to impose a financial penalty equal to the amount scammed, if we do this it will be in addition to being banned.

However, this does not mean that scamming a player who is over fourteen days old is entirely without risk. If a player has registered more than fourteen days ago but has not played much or at all during that time and we determine that he still qualifies for new player protection we may decide to reimburse that player, in that event we will also remove the amount scammed from the scammer but the scammer will not be banned or incur any financial penalties.

It is therefore advisable to research your victim if you wish to ensure your attempt to scam him is safe from being reversed, if you feel that is too much to ask of you or not a realistic expectation then the advice is to not scam anyone.

Please note that in all cases scamming another player when involved in a "legal" deal of any kind is always prohibited by server rule. That would include, but is not limited to, any scamming while gambling inside a legitimate casino or during a property transaction.

TIP: Try asking a cop to check a players passport/license before scamming him, if he has one of those he most likely has more knowledge of the server, and if he does not has either of them then he may be considered as a 'new player', even tho he is older then 14 days.

This will bring clarity for most. Good job that such things are actively discussed.
