The Cotroni crime family was a Mafia organization based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The Cotroni family was historically controlled by mobsters of Calabrian ancestry. The territory controlled by the family once covered most of southern Quebec and Ontario, until the Rizzuto crime family supplanted them.
The FBI considered the family a branch of the Bonanno crime family.
In the 1950s the family formed a strong connection to the New York Bonanno crime family as the crime family began controlling the majority of Montreal's drug trade.
The Cotroni family also kept ties with other Mafia families in Italy and throughout the US and Canada. In the 1970s an internal war broke out between Sicilian and Calabrian factions in the family.
During the violent Mafia war in Montreal Paolo Violi (who was acting capo for Vic Cotroni) was murdered along with others in the late 1970s.
The war ended in the late 1970s, when Vic Cotroni the Calabrian leader had to let go the Sicilian faction led by Nicolo Rizzuto.
The Calabrian faction continued to operate after the late 1970s with Vic Cotroni as the boss until he died leaving his youngest brother Frank Cotroni as the boss.
The faction would lose more power in Quebec and operated in the shadow of the Sicilian faction led by Nicolo Rizzuto.
Their leader Frank Cotroni died of cancer in August 2004 leaving the Rizzuto Sicilian faction as the most powerful crime family in Canada.
On November 4, 2012 Joseph Di Maulo, a longtime ally of the Cotroni family, was executed outside his Montreal home. Police believe his murder is part of a ongoing power struggle between the Sicilians and their rivals.

I was born among the Underdogs in Los Santos. No one respected us, we were shit poor. I was sent out for work at the Age of Five as a Rag Picker. I used to pick up all the junk, Plastic on the roads and give it to the Factory which was a couple of miles away from my Shack. We used to get about 5 dollars for 2 days of collecting crap, and my Family of Three, Including me, had to survive on that.
When I was 17, things were going horrible. Some local gang had been formed, as even they were poor, they decided to make their own weapons, own costumes, and roam around like Highway men. They used to rob people on the highways by pelting stones at them, or throwing eggs on their car windshields, making them stop on the road, and then these guys would go in to capture their prey.
I decided to join these guys one day. I used to fail the most, and used to let many of these guys escape because of my Stupidness. They kicked me out, beat me up, and then sent me home for letting many guys get away! Then they ganged up on me and my family and stole all the money that we had collected in that 1 month so that they could 'Make up for their losses' that were caused due to me.
Well, my parents passed away, I would rather say, murdered by those guys. I ran away from home, far away from that gang. Used to beg and the streets of Los Santos, used to make a Dollar or Two in a day. And used to survive on that.
Later on, I met one of my friend from my Village, who was going to join this big gang. He invited me and said you would feel like family, and as he was my friend and I knew him, I tagged along. I felt good having power in my hands. Now I know how those guys felt, when they used to Gang up on their own people. I went back for revenge, killed those backstabbers, went into hiding for more than a Month, and returned to Los Santos.
Soon I departed from this Family and was Ridin' Solo. Used to get my ass kicked by the local thugs, used to kick some asses As the Local Thug. I decided I wanted to be part of a family again. So I came here, to the Catroni Family.

The point of having quality over quantity and not accepting everyone who applies is so that people learn that they need to be the best of the best , I had to wait 2 months to become a sforza, I had no punishments since, well than I left to troll so I got one punishment, I was proud to join, that is the whole point of a mafia, that you are honored to be in it, that you know you deserve it and you know how to and that you need to respect everyone, not just.. accept.. randoms
