My PC used to not do this... In COD5, and ArmA 2, everything works fine at first. But after 5-10 minutes of playing.. the FPS drops pretty low.. and its getting real annoying. My specs are:

EVGA 8800 GTS with nVidia chipset
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+, 3114MHz
3 GB of RAM

I've even formatted and its still doing it. And yes my graphics driver is up to date.

I am clueless on what to do. Help please.

What are your temperatures? At first it sounds like overheating. Probably your CPU.

Does the frame rate remain low, or does it become patchy of being high, low, high, low ?

well as AMD do run kinda hot it is probably a overheating CPU.. otherwise its the GPU, i know with my 2 XFX nVidia 9600GT cards, if they reach 60C thse lower core speeds to help it cool down, producing higher FPS then.. but on average they run at around 30C.. So either GPU or CPU overheating..

My AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.7 GHz @ 2,970 GHz is running at 45C max (with stock cooler)  :conf: I don't know where people gets that they are running hot  :conf: I have had three AMD processors and all have been MAX 50C in full load (tested with Prime95).
Video card underclocks itself at 60C? That's umm... Normal temperature for GPU  :conf: Mine ( GF 7650 GS ) was running @ 128C, but after new cooler, it runs at 40C.

But to the topic, Underclock your processor to where it was (3,0 GHz) and test then. My FPS goes lower if I overclock too much, but games don't crash.

128C? I very much doubt it.

exactly what i was thinking, your system will crash by 100C to prevent damage to your components.. over 100C is just messed up...

I had this problelm, i swapped out my motherboard and even though all my hardware was compatible with it, i still got bad framerates in games and even just watching very HQ or HD youtube vids. I eventually solved the problem by buying a new processor.

I get this problem, for me, it all orginated when my old Motherboard was replaced by the mechanics, they replaced my 800MHZ FSB Motherboard with a 200MHZ FSB Motherboard, I bought some new RAM and got Graphics Card and it fixed the lag in most of my games, however, San Andreas is still drops FPS, and I can't run Firefox, Photoshop, Media Player, and and Messenger all at once without some lag.

Your system settings are similar to mine, so you will proberbly need either a new Motherboard or Processor or something.

I have Intel Pentium D, its a very fast dual core processor at 3:00GHZ, however, it isn't a durable one.

Your PC can go over 100C if you turn "self-protection" off... soz4modifiedbios..
