Hey there,

This is perhaps looking towards this year's awards, which are yet a little while away, but I thought I would voice some suggestions/changes that might be effective:

To see the 2009 Oscar categories: http://www.argonathrpg.eu/forum/index.php?topic=49045.0

Firstly, I think having awards separately for each server division is a good idea, as it does not leave out people that deserve to be mentioned, even if their server isn't the most populous etc.
However, I think a few new categories could be added, that are perhaps more forum specific as that seems to be missed out.
Namely: "The Best Contributor to the Forums"; "The Most Active Forumer" - or something along those lines. There could be awards for each separate division, or simply for all the divisions as a whole.
This might also encourage more people to be on the forums actively.

Other categories I think will be effective:

- The Most Friendly Player/Forumer
- The Best Business Person
- The Most Productive Player/Forumer
- The Most Dedicated Player/Forumer
- The Best Organiser
- The Best All Round Player
- The Most Contributary Player/Forumer
- The Most Active Player/Forumer
- The Most Helpful Player/Forumer
- The Most Calm/at Peace

(Or instead of having 2 separate forum and in-game categories, these could simply be all round awards too).

- The Best/Most Useful Forum Topic
- The Best/Most Successful Business
- The Best/Most Successful Organisation (not including roleplay groups)

I think these generalised categories would be really good. As of yet, categories such as "The Most Friendly/Helpful" seem to be limited just to Admins (and police enforcers/criminals) which leaves out the usual players. Some of these categories may be worth trying, such as "The Best Business Person" as while we have a number of businesses running across our servers, there is no way in which to merit them in a wide sense. Same goes for events etc.

Currently, we have individual awards for the Police Departments. As we now have other governmental based services, I think it would be worth making a new section, something along the lines of "Civil Services" might be fitting. Of course, the categories could be further broken down from there, if need be.

The so called "Anti-Features"...
These seem to be awards for negative things? Surely, we should not be awarding negativity? "The Best Flamer"? That goes against our rules, technically, therefore why should we hand out a nice shiny award for it? ;)
There are even ones for ban evading, and I think meriting (though I don't think that is the intention, it is the general purpose of awards) such a thing is not at all in a good light. This might even encourage players to break rules, just to get their hands on an Oscar.
Is it really fair that a bunch of newcomers (as in most cases they seem to be) happen to have nice little awards for things that are truly counter-productive, while there are some people that are very dedicated who do not receive anything at all - even if they are too modest to ask for something, I feel there are those that should still be recognised.
I even feel that such awards should be completely removed, as they bring a "shadow" of negativity to the awards.

I feel the awards system is a perfect way to reward someone for their contributions to Argonath, and giving them a bit more depth would be very good. Also, I remember that there was a rule stating that you could not vote for the same player in more than one category. While this has its benefits - such as avoiding favouritism, I feel that if there are those that truly deserve it, then they should be allowed to be nominated for more than one category (by the same person) - plus, at the end of the day, it will come down to the total nominations per category, rather than total overall nominations per person, and the awards jury would make a suitable decision, so the odd person that votes player "X" for everything as they are in love with them, should not have too big an impact, provided an accurate decision is made, and there are other true candidates.

I am assuming that the upcoming categories for the awards will be somewhat similar to last year's, but I personally feel they could do with a tweak (although there were some very good ones).

Hehe, they are no doubt a good laugh, but I don't think there should be actual awards for things such as, ban evasion, flaming and being a pain to people (though that one could be more for lol's).

Maybe they could be added as a separate "Lol" section onto the Oscars, but no actual awards given out for them?
Or whatabout a whole new category called the "Lol Awards"?

Nice suggestions, more categories - more fun. :)

Some people are happy when they win 'negative' awards just because they like the medal at their profile

Yep, just for the show. I really don't think we should award/recognise negative "accomplishments".

I just thought I would bump this - being now an appropriate time with the 2010 nominations having been released.

I'll still back up most of my earlier suggestion. It's good to see that this year there are some more awards along the lines of those suggested.

A note to add is (most in regard to the latest awards):

- From what I saw, it looks like "SA:MP" seems to be coming up a lot - most notably in the Misc. section of the awards. Awards such as "Best Medic" should not be just fixated on a certain division. They should be either kept open to all divisions, or to be voted for individually per division. That's my opinion.

- Likewise, while it is good to see that there are overall awards, I think that this being on a majority vote system the most populous division will most likely always end up getting those.
Hopefully players will be a little more open minded and consider other divisions. :P

Maybe because SA:MP is the largest and most popular server?

Split it then

Best Medic from SA, Best Medic from VC, Best Medic from LC, then Best Medic

That's a fact that it is the largest in terms of number.

It doesn't mean that it's the only thing that makes up our community. ;)
