Usually they come in and disrupt roleplay. I'm not discriminating, it's the truth. A lot of people in argonath once could not speak english well, the "test" is SO SIMPLE that anyone with primary/elementary school level of English can pass it. It's mainly to avoid spam of /p with foreign chat.

Sure they don't stick around, but wouldn't you guys rather make a system effecient to outright avoid people spamming the public chat wit nonsense? I'd rather not see that then see them be able to go in and wreck stuff and then be kicked/banned.

I want Devin at my Birthday Party! What a positive guy X)

Regarding this topic, the only thing that comes to mind is non-sense. I fully support Cofiliano's words. The most valuable players that are part of this community, regardless if they are active or inactive, when they first started playing had no idea how to properly speak/write in English, and usually tend to start insultuous conversations over the main chat due to the fact of not fully understand sentences . Yet, these days, they're Argonath its finest.

In my honest opinion, there should be no restrictions regarding someone's English capabilities.

There should be, however, either through scripts or not, an official group mainly formed by acknowledged Argonath members. Gathering atleast one individual from each country.

This group should get a message as soon as a new player registers. Followed by his nationality. This is when members come into play. Leading them through the basic rules and available commands.

Asides of showing a dedicated community to the new comers, being received by a fellow citizen of their country would be amazing.

And of course, this would aliviate work for the administrator team.

That would be a better and way more functional idea compared to the one suggested by OP.

Indeed - first thing I had in mind when I read this topic was non-sense.
I've known and seen several individuals around in the last couple years - and they have really put effort in learning, to communicate and play along with the population.

So telling people who are a bit slow on the grammar to stay out of Argonath(which is also an international server), is totally unacceptable and incomprehensible.

This is just my opinion, it is not ment with any offenses.

Teach them in their own language first! Then encourage them to learn english. I failed german at school but yet I was able to guide a german guy in his own language for over two hours, even getting compliments from him for my german knowledge.

Lead by example.

You want to reduce the player count back to twenty players a day again? Because that's how you reduce the player count to twenty players a day again.

How do you expect a new player, who is unable to speak even a little of basic English, to interact with other players or use commands, that he does not understand?

There should be, however, either through scripts or not, an official group mainly formed by acknowledged Argonath members. Gathering atleast one individual from each country.

Do you volunteer?
Don't see the need for script here. Take initiative, start it up. (inb4 ppl get bored of this after few weeks and project fails)

Many players register every single day.

I dunno whats the case when I'm offline, but when I am online I go to every single new player that joins and try to help him, explaining him that he should not speak in the public chat yet type /chatmode local or type in the /l chat, if a new player is not a troll and really shows interest into playin on Argonath. I go to him, use google translate, explain him that he should speak English only or at least keep it out of the /p chat, explain him how things go and if he dislikes what I am saying due to the fact he can not speak English, well then there is nothing I can do about it.

unless theres a welcome panel with a small english proficiancy test implemented for any new players that joins, the issue will remain.

EDIT: on the other hand, its not that big of a "issue" i say.
