svchost.exe using way too much memory.

Over the past few weeks, I've been getting very disturbing slowdowns and such, when I opened task manager to view that, I've found that a process called "svchost.exe"(many of them exist here) is using way too much memory.
This is an image for demonstration, although I've seen it reach way higher(1.2 gigs of ram). It basically uses all my available memory until there's nothing left.



I've tried running malware-bytes and AVG anti-virus scans but they all returned clean results, with malware-bytes showing some PUPs. I usually end up pressing "end process" to stop it, but that disables Themes and Desktop Window Manager which forces me to the basic windows 7 theme. Even after forcing it to close, it reappears after a few minutes, usually using more memory than the previous time(it stops after I force-close it about three to five times).

The challenge in narrowing down the problem is that svchost is a process that provides for various Microsoft applications and services, such as Windows Defender and a handful of others.

I tlooks like you are using Windows 7, so to find out specifics open Task Manager (as you already do) and find any instance of svchost.exe and right click it. Select the option "Goto service(s)" and screen which services are highlighted.

I know what it is, it's pretty obvious from the name itself. I'm just trying to figure out when on earth would a non-infected computer use so much memory.

I had to format my PC 2 days ago only because of this issue ..

it didn't work , that means it's not a damn virus causing this.

Those services are part of the "Local System" collection of the svchost.

Open an administrative command line prompt:

net stop bits
net stop wuauserv
net stop appidsvc
net stop cryptsvc
Navigate to the following:

Code: [Select]

C:\Windows\
Rename the following folder

Code: [Select]

SoftwareDistributionto

Code: [Select]

SoftwareDistribution.bakup
In the same administrative command window, type:

Code: [Select]

net start bits
net start wuauserv
net start appidsvc
net start cryptsvc
This will reset your windows update service, which is commonly riddled with issues and fuckups.
