Hi Argo!
Wishing you a great 2016. I send my love to you as we come to the next year of our lives.
It's been a great journey and I'm sure everyone here has a story that they can share. I'd love to hear it. I bet we could all learn a thing or two from each other's experiences and this is my reason for creating this topic.
I'd like to share with you a small story, and then a plan for you for the year. I'd like to end with you writing a message.
It's been an interesting year, but now might be the time for some of you to reinvent yourself. To clear out old thoughts that perhaps were holding you back or maybe things that you should let go of. Perhaps there's a special someone in your life that you need let them know you appreciate them. Perhaps its a turning point in your career. Perhaps it's working out that bit more. Whatever it is, there's no better time to start than now!
I went to L.A in December and it was a life changing experience. I'll never be the same again and I'm so glad I did it. It opened my eyes to what I was MISSING!
It took hard work to get there Argo, I mean really, taking a trip by myself, going out and taking a leap in a new place. Learning some life skills along the way. Meeting some new people. As scary as that might sound, what I learn't from that experience will stay with me the rest of my life. The rewards were astounding.
So picture this, I get to L.A for a business conference, then I'm totally in the dark. I have to get from point A to point B. I have to make sure I have everything and I've only got a few hours to look what's around me. I've had an 11 hour flight already. I haven't eaten properly and boom now I have all this extra stuff to face! But my Why kept me going. There's different people, different opportunities and they're all right in front of me. I had to use new sources of knowledge to get around. Uber, places to eat, reviews, wall warts to charge my phone. Looking at a map in a different country, getting to the right place, making sure I had wifi everywhere I went. It was exciting, a totally new experience that gave me confidence to go places I wouldn't have. So I get back home totally energised to use what I've learn't and to better myself and the people around me.
As a new year's gift I want to share with you some ideas that might help you no matter where you are in life.
Where do you see yourself in a year time?
You should take a moment to get out a piece of paper and write down everything you would like to change in your life. Everyone has something, perhaps its a hairstyle, a new job, more money, a new skill or hobby or even a partner.
This question all depends on your why. Why do you want to go there. Why do you want to do that?
What's the problem with staying where you are now?
Although you may not think it, these are questions everyone asks themselves but not many people take the time to answer and think about properly over time. You know it takes a second to think about something but a day to take action on it. But then it takes 90 days (yes really) for that new action to become a habit. Perhaps its reading a new book. Think about it. You decide to make the leap and read a new book. But whats to make you read another book? Think about the rewards and you'll get to places to much quicker.
Once you have your why (your reward) you should focus on the how.
Why do I want to go to L.A? To attend a conference and get knowledge.
How am I getting to L.A? Aeroplane
How am I getting to the Airport? Family & Friends
How am I getting Family and Friends to take me to the airport? Ah let me stop here. Do you have someone who you could rely on when you're in need? Do you know someone who can rely on you in times of need? If not perhaps the year is the time to find a friend who you can rely on. Perhaps there's friends of yours that you haven't spoken to a while because you got out of touch or there's people around you that you need to let go of.
I remember a time where I had to let go of people who would have put bad thoughts into my head about going to L.A because they wouldn't have gone. Its things like this that can make all the difference in the years ahead.
Perhaps you want to learn a new language, Why? So I can feel confident in another country. Okay How? By studying new languages.
How? By downloading the app Duolingo
How? By practicing for 15 minutes every day
How? By making time before I go to bed.
Boom you've made such a change, now just keep practicing it by making little rewards for yourself. As you'll soon come to find, little changes you make now, the seeds you plant now will help you for years to come.
Perhaps for some of you its learning a new skill, like cooking or programming or losing weight. You can use this powerful technique no matter where you are or how old you are. Its all up to you.
This is the exactly the same technique that I used to go to the United States. It's the same technique that got me to learn German. It's the same technique I used to read a book a week and get started on Magazine articles and news papers. It's the same technique that got me where I wanted to go for 2015 and it'll work for you in 2016. It only takes you and your why to make it happen.
So how do you start?
So you should take this time to write down one thing that you want to do (Your why) for this year then come back a month or two months from now, I'm sure this topic will still be here and write about your results or if you haven't had any results perhaps ask the community in this topic some more How's, perhaps you can't think of all the how's right now in order to do something. Here's the thing, all the answers have all been found (the How's) all you need to do is look for them. The more you look for them the more clearly you'll see them.
So Argo, what's holding you back?
Remember that you can't undo what's already been done and the best years of your life are still in-front of you. If you want something you need to do things that you've never done before. Remember that where you are now is only a small step in your journey.
Make 2016 the best year of your life.
<3 Dell.
